Unit performs repeated calculations of maximum permissible exposure (MPE), optical density, nominal ocular hazard distance, nominal hazard zone, and laser hazard classification. Graphics simulate various laser, eyewear, or barrier combinations, and also illustrate use of eye protection. Advanced, Intermediate, or Basic subscription packages are available.

Since 2009, Federated Insurance has been recommended by TIA for Tire Dealer Shield property and casualty insurance program.
Manufacturers encouraged by newly elected Congress.

November 5, 2010 NAM welcomed newly elected members of 112th Congress, many of whom support pro-manufacturing agenda. According to NAM President and CEO John Engler, Congress needs to extend all tax cuts across the board and pass permanent R/D credit to increase innovation, which will immediately create jobs and grow economy. In June 2010, NAM launched "Manufacturing Means Jobs!" campaign and manufacturers call upon new Congress to endorse and publicly support this strategy.

Award goes to company in sector that has lowest injury and illness rates as well as exemplary safety programs. Worker Safety Excellence Award in Aerospace Components sector went to Raytheon Company.

With monthly individual premiums as low as $150 (when employer-paid), these indemnity plans are designed to help meet basic health care needs by providing fixed-payment amounts for unlimited physician office visits, insured prescription drugs, inpatient hospitalization, surgery, emergency care, and diagnostic testing.

ASHRAE and IES collaborate on residential energy standard.

November 4, 2010 ASHRAE and Illuminating Engineering Society are working together to strengthen requirements in ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 90.2, Energy Efficient Design of Low-Rise Residential Buildings. ASHRAE's Board of Directors recommends that it be 30% more efficient than 2004 version. Standard would target home builders and code officials in an easy-to-understand format that is simple to use. Committee plans public review later this year to determine whether proposed changes are meeting needs of audience.
North American Robot Orders up 34% in first 9 months of 2010.

November 4, 2010 According to statistics released by RIA, a total of 9,628 robots valued at $618.4 million were ordered through September by North American manufacturing companies. This represents a gain of 34% in units and 45% in dollars over same period in 2009. Companies outside of North America ordered another 1,778 robots valued at $102.6 million from North American-based robotics companies during the period, a gain of 143% in units and 168% in dollars over first 9 months of 2009.
Independent Panels to review data used for FEMA flood maps.

November 4, 2010 FEMA is using independent, third party process to aid in review and resolution of conflicting data related to Flood Insurance Rate Maps. Scientific Resolution Panels will serve as independent scientific bodies to resolve issues when conflicting technical data is presented. Contracted by FEMA, National Institute of Building Sciences will convene SRP by developing pre-qualified list of technical experts whose backgrounds cover fields of surface water hydrology, hydraulics, and coastal engineering.

North American Robot Orders increase 34% over 9 months in 2010.

November 4, 2010 Statistics released by RIA show that 9,628 robots valued at $618.4 million were ordered through September by North American manufacturing companies, representing 34% gain in units over same period in 2009. Orders placed by non-automotive customers jumped 53%, with largest growth in semiconductor/electronics/photonics, while orders to automotive-related customers rose 18%. RIA estimates that over 200,000 robots are now at work in U.S. factories, while over one million are being used worldwide.
Third Quarter Workholding Shipments up 7.1% from second quarter.

November 4, 2010 At $58.3 million for third quarter 2010, shipments of workholding equipment were up 47.1% from third quarter 2009 according to Advanced Workholding Technology Group of AMT. Workholding equipment shipments within U.S. by 38 companies participating in statistical report totaled $48.6 million while exports amounted to 9.7 million. Report from AWT also shows that domestic workholding equipment shipments increased 5.2% and U.S. exports increased 16.8% from second quarter 2010.
Martinovich and Steudle elected to lead AASHTO in 2011.

Part of MDOT since 1987, Steudle currently chairs AASHTO Standing Committee on Performance Management and Subcommittee on Asset Management, and also serves on Executive Committee.

November 4, 2010 Team registration for "Residential Fueling with Hydrogen" contest closed, leaving 54 teams from 19 countries and 5 continents. Contest will include 10 teams from top 50 engineering schools in the world, 7 teams from top 20 engineering schools in U.S., 2008 and 2010 Grand Prize Winner Missouri University of Science and Technology, and various universities from prior contests. Honda, a leading developer of home hydrogen refueling technologies, has also joined contest as sponsoring organization.
