NFPA creates forum for the fluid power industry.

February 9, 2011 NFPA will have a strong presence at IFPE 2011, which is scheduled for March 22-26, 2011 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. IFPE focuses on the integration of fluid power with other technologies for power transmission and motion control applications. Co-located with CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2011 exposition for construction industries and ICON Expo, with emphasis on concrete products industry, IFPE provides platform for interaction between engineers in fluid power and its key end-use markets.
HART« Communication Foundation names plant of the year.

February 9, 2011 HART« Communication Foundation has selected MOL Plc Danube Refinery located in Szßzhalombatta, Hungary, as recipient of 2010 HART Plant of the Year Award. Beginning in 2002, MOL engineers decided to install HART-enabled devices throughout their operation and since then, number of valves selected for repair during planned shutdown has dropped from 60% to about 5%. More than 30,000 of plant's 50,000 instruments are now HART-enabled, with 3,700 of these mostly control valves and instruments.
FPSA Engages Marketing Partner for Process Expo 2011.

February 9, 2011 FPSA engaged Adfinity Marketing Group to help with marketing Process Expo 2011, The Global Food Equipment and Technology Show(TM). Commenting on this choice, FSPA president and CEO David Seckman said that Adfinity, bringing their "extensive food industry knowledge," will aid in reaching out and securing attendees, promoting show activities, and branding Process Expo as "the premiere global food equipment and technology show." This show is the first for which FPSA is the sole organizer.

February 9, 2011 Food Processing Suppliers Association announced that it has launched a Spanish language version of the PROCESS EXPO website, which is part of a comprehensive program to inform Latin American food processing professionals about the benefits of participating in PROCESS EXPO, taking place Nov 1-4, 2011 at McCormick Place in Chicago. Having content in Spanish on myprocessexpo.com will help attendees identify sessions that are most important to them.
Process Expo 2011 expands show floor to meet strong demand.

February 8, 2011 FPSA announced that it has expanded the show floor for PROCESS EXPO 2011 to 252,000 net square feet to accommodate space requests from new exhibitors and existing exhibitors requesting space upgrades. Suppliers of food processing and packaging equipment have signed on in record numbers to exhibit, with space surpassing 2010 by 60%. New exhibitors point to presence of bellwether suppliers on show floor as a major factor in deciding to commit to 2011 show.

February 8, 2011 ACGIH« Board of Directors ratified 2011 Threshold Limit Values (TLVs«) for Chemical Substances and Physical Agents and Biological Exposure Indices (BEIs«). It also approved recommendations for additions to Notice of Intended Changes (NIC). Annual Reports of ratifications will be published in winter issue of ACGIH newsletter, and draft documentation for substances on NIC is also available online. Documentation for adopted substances and agents will be available by March 7, 2011.

February 8, 2011 SAE International has agreed to strategic partnership with IGI Global that will enable organization to sell selected IGI Global eBooks. Agreement is part of SAE International's Content Partnership Program, which seeks to expand SAE's publishing program. "This agreement helps to broaden the scope of relevant information regarding connectivity, communications, and electronics available to engineering professionals, on SAE's website," said Kevin Jost of SAE.

February 8, 2011 SAE International and ZigBee« Alliance will collaborate on ZigBee Smart Energy(TM) v2.0 standard development. Standard will define how Plug-In Electric Vehicles (PEVs) and power grid interact, whether at consumer's home or at remote location, and provide drivers with real-time information needed to control energy use, manage charging costs, and receive utility incentives. Control functions necessary to safely manage charging of PEVs while maintaining grid integrity will also be covered.

FABTECH shifts show dates to November 14-17.

February 8, 2011 Originally scheduled to begin on Sunday, FABTECH 2011 will now open on Monday, Nov. 14 and run through Thursday, Nov. 17. Change is due to an increase in exhibitor participation and demand for larger booth spaces. In addition, exhibitors are making plans to display highly automated machinery on show floor, and the new dates will provide an additional move-in day. Event is expected to draw 30,000 attendees and 1,200 exhibiting companies covering more than 450,000 net ft▓ of floor space.

February 8, 2011 The Hydraulic Institute has updated 2004 edition of ANSI/HI standard on viscosity correction and published the Effects of Liquid Viscosity on Rotodynamic Pump Performance ANSI/HI 9.6.7-2010. Standard includes refined mathematics for better results throughout, editorial changes for easier reading, and increased educational content. Figures showing characteristics when pumping viscous liquids have been clarified, and upper limit of flow range has been increased to 410 m│/h (1800 gpm).
Fluid Power Industry Forum to be offered at IFPE 2011.

NEMA addresses court ruling on power transmission corridors.

February 8, 2011 NEMA expressed disappointment when U.S. Court of Appeals for Ninth Circuit overturned DOE efforts to establish two National Interest Electric Transmission Corridors. NEMA's Evan R. Gaddis said ruling delays timely development of reliable electric grid in mid-Atlantic region and southern California. "The current process for siting interstate transmission lines is too slow and too costly to the public," stated Gaddis, who also said lines are needed to deliver power from renewable energy sources.
Mexican Food Processors commit to Process Expo 2011.
