EPA issues update to national air toxics data.

March 14, 2011 EPA has released 4th update of National Air Toxics Assessment (NATA) computer tool, which helps federal, state, and local governments better understand potential health risks from exposure to air toxics. Based on assessment, air toxic emissions fell by 42%, between 1990 and 2005, from industrial and mobile sources. NATA is used to identify geographic areas, pollutants, and types of emission sources that need analysis to characterize potential risks and determine how to protect public health.
Phoenix Awards Recognize 2 Firms for reconstruction efforts.

March 14, 2011 RIA presented its Phoenix Awards, highest honors for innovation in restoration and reconstruction, to member firms. Mellon Certified Restoration of Yeadon, PA won for its work on 234,000 ft² school that suffered a fire from 30 ft artificial Christmas tree located in the building's rotunda. Alliance Disaster Kleenup of Northbrook, IL won for its work at The Off the Streets Club in Chicago. Both awards were presented at 66th Annual RIA Convention and Exhibition in Colorado Springs, CO.
BIO hails Senate passage of America Invents Act.

March 14, 2011 BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood, released statement commending the Senate for its overwhelming passage of the America Invents Act by vote of 95-5. Once enacted into law, it will strengthen and improve nation's patent system, spurring innovation and job creation. The improvements made by America Invents Act would benefit all sectors of the U.S. economy by enhancing patent quality and the efficiency, objectivity, predictability, and transparency of the patent system.

FAA Celebrates Airport Improvements made with Recovery Act funds.

March 14, 2011 FAA celebrated completion of NC Asheville Regional Airport's terminal improvements, which were paid for with $7.8 million from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Specifically, grant paid for Terminal A improvements concerning departure gates, security checkpoint, and replacement of 2 passenger boarding bridges. US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said that these improvements "will result in business and employment opportunities" as well as strengthen American competitiveness.
Competition seeks best transportation projects of 2010.

March 14, 2011 AASHTO, AAA, and U.S. Chamber of Commerce launched the fourth annual America's Transportation Awards competition. State departments of transportation are being encouraged to enter their best transportation projects in 4 categories: On Time, Under Budget, Innovative Management, and Best Recovery Act Project. After regional competitions, 10 projects scoring highest points will move on to vie for Grand Prize and People's Choice Award, both of which offer $10,000 prize.

Current camera interface and interoperability standards activities, such as GigE Vision®, Camera Link®, the Camera Link HS(TM), CoaXPress, and GenICam have been developed either by AIA or other trade associations. To educate users on various standards, a special exhibit will be featured at Automate 2011 running March 21-24.

Agenda will include keynote address by NTSB Chairman Deborah A.P. Hersman as well as 3 sessions by NTSB, 2 by FAA, and 3 by AOPA. In addition to accident briefs, sessions will address weather issues, TWA800 (lecture and reconstruction), FAA perspectives, safety systems, and volunteer pilots.
EPA's Fix a Leak Week encourages Americans to save water.

March 14, 2011 Across the country, household leaks waste more than 1 trillion gallons of water/year and can increase homeowners' water bills by 12%. To help consumers find and repair easy-to-fix leaks, U.S. EPA is promoting the third annual Fix a Leak Week, March 14-20. EPA suggests checking for leaks such as silent toilet water leaks, twisting and tightening pipe connections, and replacing fixtures if necessary. To save even more water, consumers can use WaterSense-labeled faucet aerator or showerhead.

Coalition Members Rally to Save GPS from hasty FCC action.

March 14, 2011 Coalition to Save Our GPS, formed by Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) as well as various industries and companies, aims to resolve threat to GPS stemming from FCC's decision to allow expansion of terrestrial use of satellite spectrum immediately neighboring that of GPS. In March 10 statement, coalition said resulting 40,000 additional ground stations could result in as many dead spots, each miles in diameter. Coalition also outlined necessary safeguards.

It provides guidance on proper application of nonmetallic-sheathed cable listed according to UL 719 and underground feeder and branch circuit cable listed according to UL 493. Revision reflects changes to National Electrical Code that took effect January 1, 2011 and updated description of category PWVX as it appears in 2010 UL White Book.

March 11, 2011 Developed by Subcommittee D01.46 on Industrial Protective Coatings, ASTM D7682 standard fulfills need within concrete surface preparation field for means of measuring and permanently replicating profile of concrete-coated building surface. Technique uses replica putty to make impressions of concrete surfaces for either visual comparison or for quantifying surface roughness. Standard will be useful to coating inspectors, contractors, coating manufacturers, and engineers.

Examples of fretting fatigue include dovetail connection between blade and disc of gas turbine, components in contact in riveted and bolted joints, and components that are press-fit or clamped to another component.
