International Code Council adopts specification for sunrooms.

October 25, 2013 At its Public Comment Hearings, International Code Council voted to adopt AAMA/NPEA/NSA 2100-12, Specification for Sunrooms, into 2015 International Residential Code. Adoption of reference standard means IRC will now have 5 distinct categories of sunrooms for purpose of uniformly applying code's requirements to patio covers, sun porches, sunrooms, solariums, and conservatories that have been popular for homeowners who want to add recreational space by enclosing porch, deck, or patio area.

October 25, 2013 With continued focus on standards-related aspects of Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, ANSI and German Institute for Standardization conducted U.S.-German Standards Panel in Washington, DC, on October 15. Workshop topics included added value of harmonized standards where possible, importance of resolving unnecessary barriers to world's largest trade relationship, industry perspectives on standards and conformance, and role of third-party conformity assessment in enabling free trade.

Participants will be divided into teams and given agenda and lists of interests which will simulate perspectives of different stakeholders in standardization process for a new hypothetical technology. Team members will examine negotiation and leadership strategies used in standardization process, as well as system’s underlying mechanisms, before taking part in 3-phase evaluation.

He highlighted 4 key points pertaining to substitution of biological products and noted that "complexities of biologic medications" mandate that existing state laws governing generic substitution should not be applied to biosimilars.
ELFA releases September Monthly Leasing and Finance Index.

October 24, 2013 According to ELFA's Monthly Leasing and Finance Index, overall new business volume for September was $7.7 billion, down 6% compared to September 2012. Month-over-month, new business volume was up 20% from August, and year-to-date, cumulative new business volume increased 6% compared to 2012. Receivables over 30 days were at 1.5% in September, down slightly from 1.6% in August. Credit approvals totaled 77.3% in September, down from 79.1% the previous month.

Standardized evaluation and regulatory approval of carpet sanitizers could be used by the public and professional service providers to elevate carpet cleaning from aesthetic appearance to documented efficacy against accumulated soils/biocontaminants. Users would include carpet maintenance chemical producers, contract testing laboratories, and EPA.
