April 1, 2011 NTSB has made several recommendations, A-11-18 through A-11-31, to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Suggestions address committed-to-stop point, checklist standardization and use, as well as work with National Weather Service. Prescription sleep medication use and education on fatigue factors as well as common sleep-related conditions were also covered, along with runway excursion prevention technology research, wet runway landing distance data, and terrain database installation.

April 1, 2011 NTSB Chairman Deborah A.P. Hersman departed on 2-day, 4-state journey from Washington D.C. to Louisville, KY in a long-haul tractor trailer driven by Stephanie Klang to get a cab's eye view of the commercial truck industry. Chairman Hersman, who holds a commercial driver's license, is traveling to the Mid-America Truck Show in Louisville where she will honor America's professional women truck drivers at the second annual Women in Trucking "Salute to Women Behind the Wheel" event on April 2.

Over 4 decades, NIST has developed voltage standards based on superconducting Josephson junctions, which are used to calibrate voltmeters.

ASTM E1903 focuses on planning and performance of Phase II investigations, and various approaches used to generate additional information regarding identification of potential contaminants associated with RECs.

March 31, 2011 For February 2011, IPC's North American PCB Statistical Program showed rigid PCB shipments up 11.4% percent and bookings down 7.3% from February 2010. Respective year to date values were up 7.7% and down 7.5%. Book-to-bill ratio dipped to 0.94. Compared to February 2010, respective flexible circuit shipment and booking values were up 8.3% and 36.3%, and respective year-to-date values were up 9.4% and 19.7%. Book-to-bill ratio increased to 1.10.

March 30, 2011 Citing possible program delays increases, costs increases, and workforce downsizing, AIA President and CEO Marion C. Blakey brought up growing industry concerns about lack of completed fiscal year 2011 budget as well as reliance on continuing resolutions. "A fiscal year budget must be completed as soon as Congress returns," said Blakey, so that programs can be effectively managed at DOD and other federal agencies (NASA, FAA) and companies can manage their responsibilities as contractors.

March 30, 2011 ASTM F2869 provides scientifically based procedure to identify equivalent test severity conditions between 1.707 m diameter laboratory roadwheel surface and flat or highway surface for radial pneumatic light truck tires. Standard also uses special interactive electronic software, which can be used to determine laboratory test conditions that provide equivalent tire internal temperatures for belt edge region for both curved laboratory roadwheel and flat highway test surfaces.

March 30, 2011 NEMA has published ANSI C119.1-2011 American National Standard for Electric Connectors-Sealed Insulated Underground Connector Systems Rated 600 Volts. Last revised in 2006, standard covers connector systems for utility applications and establishes electrical, mechanical, and sealing requirements. Revision features additional tests for impact, reusability, and resealability. Also included are sealed multiport set screw connectors used by utilities in underground distribution systems.

March 30, 2011 NEMA commends Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for a decision that will improve the reliability and efficiency of the electric grid. In its final rule, FERC has allowed locational marginal prices (LMP) to be paid to demand response (DR) resources in organized wholesale energy markets. This means that electricity customers can enter into a voluntary agreement to be compensated to reduce usage when utility transmits a DR signal.
