In his testimony, Rowe described his experiences working with manufacturers and skilled laborers across America, his personal initiatives in support of job creation, as well as importance of paved roads and reliable bridges.
Washington Conference 2011 to focus on ICH quality standards.

May 16, 2011 ISPE announced it will feature 7 educational sessions, including 2 focused on ICH quality standards, as part of its 2011 Washington Conference, which will take place June 6-9 in Washington, DC. Sessions will cover such topics as process validation, compliance assurance, and ICH Q11. In addition to educational content, conference will feature three training courses that address cross contamination risk management, 21 CFR Part 11 regulation compliance, and HVAC system fundamentals.
WIRES Study shows smart grid would stimulate job creation.

May 16, 2011 In light of WIRES (Working Group for Investment in Reliable and Economic Electric Systems) study, NEMA reiterated its call for policymakers to support development of US electric transmission infrastructure. Findings from said study indicate annual investment in new electric transmission facilities could reach 12-16 billion dollars in US. This would result in 30-40 billion dollars in annual economic activity and possibly create 150,000-200,000 new full-time jobs in each of next 20 years.

May 16, 2011 Five proposed addenda to Standard 189.1-2009, Standard for the Design of High-Performance, Green Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings, are open for public comment. Developed by ASHRAE in conjunction with Illuminating Engineering Society of North America and U.S. Green Building Council, standard provides green building foundation for those who design, build, and operate green buildings. Addendums aim to appease requirements for heat reduction and subsequent energy use.
NAM makes comments before Senate Finance Committee.

May 16, 2011 According to statement submitted before Senate Finance Committee hearing on Oil and Gas Tax Incentives and Rising Energy Prices, NAM is extremely concerned with proposals under consideration in Congress that would increase taxes for energy companies and discourage needed investment in energy infrastructure and supply. In particular, NAM strongly opposes proposal that would increase taxes on oil and gas companies by making them ineligible for Sec. 199 deduction for domestic manufacturing activity.

May 16, 2011 Subcommittee E34.55 on Occupational Safety and Health Performance Improvement will develop standards that will measure work-related injury and illness performance. Initial proposed standard, ASTM WK33270, Guide for Recording Occupational Injuries and Illnesses, will define work-related injuries and illnesses in a way that can be easily understood across countries, that are related to safety management systems, and that can be used to evaluate and compare safety programs.

Raymond further noted how manufacturing sectors depend on Internet and that "Unscrupulous actors online are threatening the growth of these businesses and the jobs they create."

His research activities are focused on theoretical atomic, molecular, and optical physics.
AASHTO joins UN campaign for worldwide road safety.

May 13, 2011 AASHTO joined with United Nations, members of Congress, and leading traffic safety and public health organizations to launch "The Decade of Action," a 10-year international campaign aiming to save 5 million lives and prevent 50 million serious injuries caused by motor vehicle crashes around the world. During event, Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of CDC, released new data on impact of traffic crashes nationwide, including state-specific information on financial cost of motor vehicle crash deaths.
FAA revises proposal to enhance air carrier training programs.

May 13, 2011 FAA has proposed a substantial and wide-ranging overhaul of air carrier crew training. Under proposal, flight crews would have to demonstrate, not just learn, critical skills in "real-world" training scenarios. Pilots would be required to train as a complete flight crew, coordinate their actions through Crew Resource Management, and fly scenarios based on actual events. Dispatchers would have enhanced training and would be required to apply that knowledge in complex operating environment.

New Fan Efficiency Grade program will support initiatives within many codes and standards that will encourage or require greater energy savings.
