March 22, 2011 Revised standard, ASAE D497.7, Agricultural Machinery Management Data, simplifies fuel consumption equations. This standard is used in conjunction with ASAE EP496.3, Agricultural Machinery Management; to report typical tractor values for tractor performance, power requirements, repair and maintenance costs, depreciation, fuel and oil use, reliability for field operation, probable working days, and timeliness coefficients as measured by experiment, modeling, or survey.
ASABE Revises Two Standards for lawn and garden tractors.

March 22, 2011 American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) revised ANSI/ASAE S370.5, 2000-RPM Power Take-Off (PTO) for Lawn and Garden Ride-On Tractors, and ASAE S431.2, 2000-RPM Front and Mid PTO for Lawn and Garden Ride-On Tractors, following regular 5-year periodic review. Main focus of said revision was removal of common outdated reference: ANSI B92.1-1970 (R1993), Involute Splines and Inspection, Inch Version.

March 21, 2011 NEMA SSL 1-2010 Electronic Drivers for LED Devices, Arrays, or Systems primarily covers ratings, performance, and marking, but it also provides specifications guidance for EMI, audible noise, and efficiency calculations. NEMA SSL 6-2010 Solid State Lighting for Incandescent Replacement-Dimming focuses on integrated LED lamps intended for retrofit into systems that previously used incandescent screw base lamps. It addresses dimming of products and interaction between dimmer and bulb.

March 21, 2011 During Q4 2010, NEMA's indices for incandescent lamps show 14.3% increase in shipments compared to Q3, while compact fluorescent (CFL) shipments decreased by 3.9%. Indices for incandescents and CFLs posted negative year-over-year growth, and for calendar year 2010, incandescent shipments declined 8.3% while CFL shipments declined less than 1%. Market share for CFLs rose for year, and declined for incandescent lamps, which will likely continue as energy efficiency standards are implemented.

Greenhouse Gas Reporting Deadline extended by EPA.

March 18, 2011 U.S. EPA has issued final rule that extends deadline for reporting 2010 data under Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program to September 30, 2011. This extension will allow EPA to further test the system that facilities will use to submit data and give industry the opportunity to test the tool, provide feedback, and have sufficient time to become familiar with the tool prior to reporting.

March 18, 2011 AIA President and CEO Marion C. Blakey called bilateral aviation safety agreement, finalized by US and European Union (EU), "a welcome step forward for trans-Atlantic cooperation." Strengthened cooperation and resulting higher common standards between US and EU were said to be "key to improving aviation safety." She also said agreement promotes efficient use of government resources and could be expanded to include areas such as pilot licensing and training.

EPA proposes national standards for mercury pollution.

March 17, 2011 In response to court deadline, U.S. EPA proposed the first-ever national standards for mercury, arsenic, and other toxic air pollution from power plants. New standards would require many power plants to install pollution control technologies to cut harmful emissions to help prevent as many as 17,000 premature deaths a year. Rule will also provide employment for thousands, by supporting 31,000 short-term construction jobs and 9,000 long-term utility jobs.
