National Tribal Toxics Committee addresses region-specific risks.

June 1, 2011 US EPA has established National Tribal Toxics Committee (NTTC), which gives Native American Indian Tribes greater input on issues related to chemical safety, toxic chemicals, and pollution prevention. Due to hold its first meeting June 1-2, NTTC will help EPA tailor and address issues such as preventing poisoning from lead-based paint, expanding pollution prevention and safer chemical initiatives, and evaluating chemical exposures that may be unique to tribes.

Equipment manufacturers working through AEM's Crane Technical Committee reviewed the decal and provided guidance. Decal is the latest project resulting from AEM/OSHA alliance promoting jobsite safety.

May 31, 2011 Introduced by Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Critical Minerals Policy Act of 2011 aims to jump-start federal policy and research related to availability of specific raw materials - 17 rare earth elements, yttrium, scandium, cobalt, lithium, thorium, and helium - critical to U.S. manufacturing, economic competitiveness, and security. NEMA President and CEO Evan R. Gaddis said that this bipartisan bill "brings greater urgency and coordination at federal level."

May 27, 2011 NEMA's Electroindustry Business Confidence Index (EBCI) for current North American conditions topped 50 point mark for seventh consecutive month in May. While this signals continued business environment improvement, EBCI has slipped over last few months. Index measured 52.3 in May, which is down from 57.1 in April and year-to-date high of 69.6 in February. EBCI for future North American conditions also dipped in May, declining to 81.8 from 85.7.
