Standard will build upon due diligence communication tool released by EICC and GeSI and utilize XML schema incorporated in IPC-175x family of IPC standards. As ANSI-accredited standards development organization, IPC will seek input from broad stakeholder group.
ASTM Committee approves thermocouple connector standard.

August 4, 2011 ASTM E2820, Test Method for Evaluating Thermal EMF Properties of Base-Metal Thermocouple Connectors, allows products to be defined based on performance instead of solely on raw material requirements. Standard will reduce risk of over-specification and will allow user to better understand how connector may affect temperature measurement accuracy. Primary users will include producers that perform verification testing of thermocouples and those who write thermocouple product specifications.

August 4, 2011 ASTM F2885, Specification for Metal Injection Molded Titanium-6Aluminum-4Vanadium Components for Surgical Implant Applications, was developed by Subcommittee F04.12 on Metallurgical Materials. Standard will add opportunities for metal injection molded medical manufacturers to use materials other than castings and wrought products to develop implants with similar properties. Primary users are seen as original equipment medical device manufacturers that produce titanium medical components.

August 4, 2011 AIA President and CEO Marion C. Blakey commended Congress and President Obama for deal extending debt limit and avoiding default. However, she added that further cuts would be triggered later this year unless another compromise is reached. While initial round of proposed reductions from defense budget forces tough decisions, Blakey said $600 billion in additional cuts that are part of trigger deal are dangerous and could compromise our U.S. national security for decades.
