ATA and HELP Inc. renew Featured Product partnership.

April 1, 2014 ATA and HELP Inc. are renewing their Featured Product partnership for 2014 with HELP's PrePass weigh station electronic screening and preclearance service. PrePass' inspection preclearance services are available at 302 operational weigh stations and ports of entry in 31 states. Under HELP's program, enrolled trucks are electronically pre-screened for federal and state safety and credentials before receiving permission to bypass inspection facilities at highway speeds.

Carano, director of new products and business development at OMG Electronic Chemicals, was honored with IPC Raymond E. Pritchard Hall of Fame Award. Carano has written 150+ technical articles, presented papers worldwide, and served on 16 IPC committees as well as IPC Board of Directors. Recently, he has taken on role as chairman of IPC Technology Education Outreach Initiative.

April 1, 2014 As part of DOE's Industrial Assessment Center program, SME student members at North Carolina State University performed cost-saving energy assessment for hosiery plant in Burlington, NC. Wendy Johnson and Stephen Taylor, members of SME’s NCSU S317 student chapter, completed assessment for Kayser-Roth Corp. under supervision of their faculty advisor, Rohan Shirwaiker, PhD. Recommendations focused on improving process design, efficiency, and ergonomics associated with operations and workstations.

Comprising members of the IPC Hall of Fame, Ambassadors are using their experience and expertise to offer advice and guidance to IPC and its programs. Creation of the Ambassador’s Council gives staff a "Hall of Fame" channel to identify and develop robust ideas to increase scope of standards, membership growth, and government relations on global basis.

With more than 25 years of experience in finance and financial management, Sandman most recently served as interim controller and consultant to CFO at EverMark LLC, a multinational manufacturer. Prior to EverMark, he served as CFO for SPG Solar, a provider of solar power systems. Sandman started his finance career at General Electric and held numerous financial leadership roles in GE Energy.

March 27, 2014 Department of Justice and U.S. EPA announced that Flint Hills Resources of Port Arthur agreed to implement innovative technologies to control harmful air pollution from industrial flares and leaking equipment at chemical plant in Port Arthur, TX. This settlement came about as part of EPA's national effort to protect communities that have been disproportionately impacted by pollution. Company is also required to pay $350,000 penalty for Clean Air Act violations.

March 26, 2014 A new nanotechnology method—employing common, everyday shrink wrap—may make highly sensitive, low-cost diagnosis of infectious disease agents possible. Described in paper co-authored by Michelle Khine, a biomedical engineering professor at the University of California, Irvine, and published in The Optical Society's journal Optical Materials Express, technique offers way to significantly boost signal of fluorescent markers used in biosensing, by depositing combination of metals onto shrink wrap.

Review Team finds Boeing 787 design safe.

March 26, 2014 FAA released findings of a team formed in January 2013 to review the Boeing 787's design, manufacture, and assembly processes. Joint team of FAA and Boeing technical experts found that the aircraft was soundly designed, met its intended safety level, and that the manufacturer and FAA had effective processes in place to identify and correct issues that emerged before and after certification. In addition, team made 7 recommendations for further improvements in Boeing processes and FAA oversight.
