U.S. Construction Machinery Exports are up 48% at mid-year 2011.

September 2, 2011 U.S. exports of construction equipment continued to grow in 2011 and ended first half of year up by 48% compared to January-June of 2010. According to AEM, total construction machinery exports at midyear were $11 billion. Specific increases include exports of U.S.-made construction machinery to South America by 51% and to Central America by 24%. Report also included information on export increases to Asia, Australia/Oceania, and Africa.
Energy Star available for new multifamily high-rise buildings.

September 2, 2011 To qualify for Energy Star, new or substantially rehabilitated multifamily high-rise buildings must meet energy-efficiency guidelines set by EPA and be at least 15% more energy-efficient than buildings that meet ASHRAE energy use standard. Qualified buildings feature combination of energy-efficient improvements including effective insulation systems, properly sized heating/cooling equipment, tight construction and ducts, Energy Star qualified lighting and appliances, and high-performance windows.
FABTECH Speaker Examines Reshoring as means to more jobs.

Manufacturers Pledge to Increase Internships to train students.

September 2, 2011 President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, in partnership with NAM and other business groups, announced that nearly 50 businesses have pledged to double or increase number of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) internships available to students. NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons called this increase "critical to economic growth and job creation." NAM and the Manufacturing Institute have continually advocated STEM programs and training to build skilled workforce.
Manufacturers pleased with Keystone XL Pipeline study.

NAM encourages action by State Department and President Obama to avoid further delay.

September 1, 2011 According to MCA statistics, motion control market was slightly down in second quarter 2011 and is largely consistent with measures of manufacturing sector performance for the period. For the market as a whole, orders in second quarter 2011 were up 23.8% year-over-year for all product markets that MCA monitors. When compared to Q1 2011, second quarter market results showed improvement with shipments growing 4.0%. Growth was evident across most product categories.

EPA announces schedule for dioxin assessment.

August 31, 2011 U.S. EPA announced that it plans to complete the non-cancer portion of its Reanalysis of Key Issues Related to Dioxin Toxicity and Response to NAS Comments, and post the final non-cancer assessment to the Integrated Risk Information System by the end of January 2012. After completing non-cancer portion, EPA will finalize the cancer portion as quickly as possible. Decision to split assessment into 2 portions follows release by Science Advisory Board of its final review report on EPA's Reanalysis.

It also found that machine vision industry continues to expect sales to stay at current levels or to increase in next 6 months.
