EPA is Accepting GHG Reporting Data via online tool.

August 24, 2011 U.S. EPA has launched tool which lets 28 industrial sectors submit their 2010 greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution data electronically. Optimized for clarity and user-friendliness, electronic GHG Reporting Tool (e-GGRT) is intended to serve public as well as industries and businesses. EPA expects to receive 2010 GHG data from approximately 7,000 large industrial GHG emitters and suppliers, including power plants, petroleum refineries, and landfills.
ANSI releases report on need for electric vehicle standards.

August 24, 2011 ANSI has submitted a report to U.S. DOE outlining priority areas where standards and conformance activities are need to facilitate safe, effective, and large-scale deployment of electric drive vehicles in the U.S. According to report, which details findings from April 5-6 ANSI Workshop, issues of safety and consumer confidence - and conformance and training programs needed to support them - are key priorities for widespread acceptance of EDVs and continued growth of the market.

August 24, 2011 ANSI Homeland Security Standards Panel has released report detailing findings and recommendations from May 25 workshop. According to report, it is crucial that small businesses grasp the value of standards and conformity assessment in overcoming obstacles presented by disasters. Speakers suggested that small businesses take incremental steps through various programs to achieve preparedness, and that throughout process, information sharing and education are key to successful implementation.

August 24, 2011 ASHRAE's 2011 Student Design Competition drilled students on their knowledge of HVAC/R system selection and design as well as integrated building design. This year's competition featured mock design of the Drake Well Museum located in Titusville, PA, the site where Edwin L. Drake drilled the world's first oil well in 1859 and launched the modern petroleum industry. Among 20-plus entries from around the world, 3 were awarded first place in 3 categories.

FAA Ice Detection Equipment Rule will enhance aviation safety.

August 24, 2011 New rule of FAA will enhance aviation safety by requiring scheduled airlines to install ice detection equipment in their existing fleets or update their flight manuals to make sure crews know when they should activate their ice protection systems. According to FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt, "This rule incorporates the latest research on aircraft icing" and "will help eliminate accidents that can occur if pilots fail to turn on the ice protection soon enough."

August 23, 2011 Final rule by FAA prohibits air carriers and other certificate holders, under certain conditions, from employing or making contractual arrangement with certain individuals who have worked for FAA in previous 2 years to act as an agent or representative in any matter before FAA. According to FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt, "This rule establishes clear restrictions that will improve our safety culture here at the FAA and throughout the aviation industry."

August 23, 2011 Proposed standard, ASTM WK33671, Guide for Body Measurements for Adult Misses Petite Figure Type, will cover petite and tall heights for the missy measurement standard, which is now based on single average height. Once standard is approved, companies that offer petite/tall options will have a table of how length measurements are affected and exact measurements to use. Those with expertise in body measurements, sizing, fitting, grading and garment measuring specifications are encouraged to join D13.
ASTM Protective Coatings Standard to address dry fall properties.

August 23, 2011 Proposed standard ASTM WK34014, Practice for Determining the Dry Fall (Fog) Properties of Protective Coatings, will be used to evaluate dry fall properties of coatings prior to large scale use as well as to determine whether coatings possess same dry fall properties when fallout collects on surfaces with elevated temperature. Potential users of the standard, including coating manufacturers, architects, engineers, and facility owners, are encouraged to participate in its development.
ANSI and IREC to pursue joint accreditation program.

August 23, 2011 ANSI has announced a partnership with the Interstate Renewable Energy Council designed to help bolster American workforce readiness for the growing number of clean energy jobs of the future. Under memorandum of understanding, ANSI and IREC will pursue an independent, joint accreditation program for credit or non-credit energy efficiency and renewable energy-related certificate programs offered in formal educational institutions and other legal entities.

August 23, 2011 Demand for motors grew for fourth straight quarter during April to June 2011 period as NEMA's Motors Shipments Index increased 16.4% from previous quarter. Since bottoming out in second quarter of 2009, index has climbed a cumulative 55% - and now exceeds its pre-recession high. Notwithstanding recent strong gains, most incoming data indicates that manufacturing growth is cooling amidst persistent weakness in U.S. economy and slowing of global economy in general.
NASA Research leads to complete map of Antarctic ice flow.

August 23, 2011 NASA-funded researchers, including Eric Rignot of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and UC Irvine scientists Jeremie Mouginot and Bernd Scheuchl, have created first complete map of speed and direction of ice flow in Antarctica. The map, which shows glaciers flowing thousands of miles from continent's deep interior to its coast, will be critical for tracking sea-level increases from climate change. Team created map using integrated radar observations from consortium of international satellites.

August 23, 2011 Over 5,000 Experimental Amateur-Built (E-AB) owners, operators, and builders responded to invitation by NTSB and Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) to complete survey on how E-AB aircraft are built and operated as to better understand related safety issues. Encouraged by number of responses to EAA survey, Deborah A.P. Hersman said, "The more information that is provided...the better we'll be able to understand the safety issues." Survey will remain open through August 31, 2011.
