Equipment Finance Industry Confidence improves in October.

October 24, 2011 According to October 2011 Monthly Confidence Index, confidence is 50.7, up from September index of 47.6. When asked to assess business conditions over next 4 months, 9.8% of executives responding said they believe business conditions will improve, up from 4.9% in September, and 80.5% of respondents believe business conditions will remain the same, an increase from 61.0% in September. Only 9.8% believe business conditions will worsen, a decrease from 34.1% in September.
ASTM UNIFORMAT II Task Group seeks input on revision.

October 24, 2011 ASTM E1557, Classification of Building Elements and Related Sitework - UNIFORMAT II, is due for its 5-year re-ballot in 2014. UNIFORMAT II Task Group is seeking input from users regarding their use, and suggestions for revision, to be considered for development and inclusion in re-ballot. Group is especially interested in comments from frequent users of ASTM E1557, as they are more likely to provide meaningful input by identifying difficulties they have experienced when using classification.

Teams of 3-10 students will be challenged to design and build rocket that will climb to 800 ft with payload of 2 raw eggs and stay aloft for 43-47 seconds. Eggs must then return to earth unbroken. Top 100 TARC teams will be invited to compete at the National Finals on May 12, 2012. Registration is open until Nov 30.

Simple suggestions include inspection of homes built before 1978, asking doctor to test children for lead, and visiting leadfreekids.org or calling 1-800-424-LEAD to learn facts.
EPA awards $50 million for clean diesel projects.

October 24, 2011 U.S. EPA has awarded $50 million for clean diesel projects as part of its ongoing campaign to reduce harmful emissions in the air and protect people's health. These efforts will replace, retrofit, or repower more than 8,000 older school buses, trucks, locomotives, vessels, and other diesel powered machines. While EPA's standards reduce emissions from newly manufactured engines, clean diesel projects will address more than 11 million older diesel engines that emit higher levels of pollution.

October 24, 2011 FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt dedicated $72.6 million air traffic control tower at Memphis International Airport. Standing 336 ft tall, tower is equipped with NextGen technology and 850 ft˛ tower cab with enough room to accommodate additional future air traffic control positions. Base building, measuring 24,000 ft˛, houses training rooms, administrative offices, and expanded terminal radar approach control, with space for future growth.
