EPA Grants Clean Air Act Petition to improve NJ air quality.

November 2, 2011 U.S. EPA granted petition submitted by N.J. Department of Environmental Protection to limit SO2 emissions from PA power plant adversely impacting air quality in Warren, Sussex, Morris, and Hunterdon counties. To abide by this first single-source petition granted by EPA, Portland Generating Station in Northampton County, PA will have to significantly cut its SO2 emissions within 3 years. Final rule provides plant with flexibility to choose most cost-effective strategy for meeting limits.
ANSI and SAS to hold globalization and standardization seminar.

November 2, 2011 To encourage more active industry participation in international standardization and address common issues related to globalization and standardization, ANSI has partnered with Shanghai Association of Standardization to organize international seminar on Nov 16. Presentations will focus on influence of WTO Technical Barriers to Trade Agreement on global trade and China's efforts to implement agreement, and case studies on role of standardization in facilitating innovation and economic development.
ASTM and ISO to cooperate on additive manufacturing standards.

November 2, 2011 ISO and ASTM International have signed an agreement to increase cooperation in developing international standards for additive manufacturing. Partner Standards Development Organization agreement provides new opportunities for the 2 organizations to adopt and jointly develop standards that serve the global marketplace. It aims to optimize stakeholder resources in development of additive manufacturing standards where both ISO and ASTM have expertise, and to shorten time to market.

November 2, 2011 After preliminary analysis that ASHRAE/IES 2010 energy efficiency standard contains significant energy savings over 2007 standard, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued ruling establishing 2010 standard as commercial building reference standard for state building energy codes. States are required to certify, by October 18, 2013, that they have updated provisions of their commercial building code regarding energy efficiency to meet or exceed 90.1-2010.

They include ASTM WK34574, Test Method for Determination of Trace Hydrogen Bromide, Hydrogen Chloride, Chlorine and Organic Halides in Hydrogen Fuel by GC with ELCDC and MS; and ASTM WK23815, Test Method for Determination of Total Halocarbons Contained in Hydrogen and Other Gaseous Fuels.

November 1, 2011 ASTM D7728, Guide for Selection of ASTM Analytical Methods for Implementation of International Cyanide Management Code Guidance was developed by Subcommittee D19.06 on Methods for Analysis for Organic Substances in Water. Test methods referenced in standard control and optimize use of cyanide in gold leaching process, protect wildlife when solutions are released into open impoundment facilities, and define cyanide concentration in process solutions used to select personal protection equipment.

It will help prioritize infrastructure investments and promote flexible use of stormwater and wastewater management solutions.

CFS is an audit and certification program that will identify and publish lists of smelters that have been certified as using conflict-free minerals.

October 31, 2011 According to NEMA's Electroindustry Business Confidence Index, conditions facing the North American electroindustry improved on balance in October, climbing to 57.4 from 50 in September. Latest month was first since May in which index exceeded 50-point growth threshold. Meanwhile, October's EBCI for future North American conditions moved higher for second straight month, increasing to 63 from 58.3 one month ago.

U.S. and European perspectives on various challenges were exchanged, including corporate restructuring, economic climate, and stakeholder pressures.

According to this official definition, cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction.

ANSI ANSLG C78.40-2011 Electric Lamps: Specifications for Mercury Lamps sets forth physical and electrical requirements for single-ended metal halide lamps operated on 60 Hz ballasts to ensure interchangeability and safety.
