January 27, 2012 NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons, in his statement following President Obama's State of the Union address, called the existing cost gap - the fact it is 20% more expensive to manufacture in U.S. as compared to largest trading partners - "self-inflicted by Washington." Demanding action as opposed to rhetoric, Timmons cited NAM roadmap and said that this current administration must actively address overregulation and overreach as well as tax reform.
Monthly Leasing and Finance Index shows new business increase.

January 27, 2012 According to ELFA's Monthly Leasing and Finance Index, overall new business volume for December was $10.8 billion, up 20% from $9.0 billion in same period in 2010. Volume was up 74% from previous month, and cumulative new business volume for 2011 rose 25% over 2010. Receivables over 30 days rose slightly to 2.1% in December from 2.0% in November, and credit standards eased as number of lease applications approved increased dramatically to 79.3% from 76.2% the previous month.

LaHood and Huerta break ground for new runway.

January 25, 2012 Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Acting Federal Aviation Administrator Michael Huerta helped break ground for $791 million runway expansion at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Project will extend, shift, and lengthen Runway 9R/27L from 5,276 to 8,000 ft. When construction activity peaks next year, project will contribute more than $1 million per day to local economy. It will also generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs by the time runway opens in fall 2014.

NTSB Completes Data Collection for E-AB aircraft safety study.

January 25, 2012 Throughout 2011, NTSB conducted study of Experimental Amateur-Built (E-AB) aircraft. In addition to using information gathered during its accident investigations, NTSB has been working with FAA, Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), and individual owners/builders. NTSB Chairman Deborah A.P Hersman expressed hopes that this study, scheduled to be completed in spring of 2012, will "result in a real and immediate safety payoff" for those who fly E-AB aircraft.
