Focused on new equipment and product innovations for fluid power, motion control, and power transmission industry sectors, 2011 IFPE hosted 400+ exhibitors that covered 140,000+ ft² of exhibit space. IFPE and co-located CONEXPO-CON/AGG attracted nearly 120,000 registrants, including 24% international.

February 16, 2012 NEMA named Gail Rodriguez, Ph.D., as executive director/VP of its Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA). Bringing 20 years of experience in diagnostic medical imaging, Rodriguez will assume this new position immediately. Previously, as Director of Policy at MITA, she oversaw association's X-ray Imaging Products Section and directed MITA Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Group. Prior to MITA, Rodriguez directed policy and business development for Institute for Molecular Technologies.

February 15, 2012 According to AMT and AMTDA, December U.S. manufacturing technology orders totaled $519.98 million. This total, attained via companies participating in United States Manufacturing Technology Orders (USMTO) program, is up 12.2% from November and 12.7% compared with December 2010. With year-to-date total of $5,508.81 million, 2011 was up 66.4% compared with 2010. In response, AMT President Douglas K. Woods said "USMTO finished its strongest year in more than a decade."

February 15, 2012 Approved as American National Standard, ASME-ITI Risk Analysis 2010 lays out risk management process to identify, analyze, and communicate risks on college and university campuses. Standard addresses threats to human life and well-being, as well as risks to facilities and infrastructure, and also encompasses potential operational hazards. Among its recommendations, standard describes how campus threat assessment teams can be put in place to help identify potential persons of concern.

AASHTO is encouraged to see continued support for multiyear, fully funded surface transportation bill. With Senate and House of Representatives also moving ahead on surface transportation bills, real progress is being made on reauthorization that will provide states with certainty they need to plan the right projects for their communities.
Proposed Standard to cover sustainable laundry best practices.

EPA releases final health assessment for Tetrachloroethylene.

February 14, 2012 EPA posted final health assessment of tetrachloroethylene - also known as perchloroethylene, or perc - to EPA's Integrated Risk Information System. Used in dry cleaning and for cleaning of metal machinery, chemical solvent is considered a likely human carcinogen. Assessment provides estimates for cancer and non-cancer effects associated with exposure to perc over a lifetime. EPA has clean air standards for dry cleaners that use perc and has set limits for amount of perc allowed in drinking water.
Voluntary Effort Makes Progress in reducing LCPFCs, PFOA.

February 14, 2012 U.S. EPA released interim results of voluntary effort by 8 chemical manufacturers to reduce emissions and use of long-chain perfluorinated chemicals (LCPFCs), including perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). Daikin, DuPont, 3M/Dyneon, and Solvay Solexis have met intermediate goal of 95% reduction in global emissions and product content by 2010. Also, 150+ replacement chemicals have been developed. All 8 participating companies informed EPA that they are on track to phase out LCPFCs by 2015's end.
