January 17, 2012 In his statement on transmission of Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) V recommendations by Secretary of Health and Human Services to Congress, BIO's Jim Greenwood cited contributions towards approval of new medicines and review time reduction. Greenwood said PDUFA V recommendations "will enhance the drug development and review process through increased transparency and scientific dialogue, advance regulatory science, and strengthen post-market surveillance."

January 13, 2012 Chip Yost, NAM VP for Energy and Resources Policy, issued statement on decision by U.S. District Court in case of Sierra Club against EPA to repeal stay of Boiler MACT and Incinerator rules. According to Yost, court's ruling will severely harm manufacturers' competitiveness, add to uncertainty, and cost vital jobs. It is already 20% more expensive to manufacture in the U.S. compared to trade partners, and regulations such as Boiler MACT continue to set manufacturers back.

According to IPC's Dave Torp, solar standard development has been an evolutionary process.

January 13, 2012 On December 22, 2011, IPC filed comments with U.S. Department of State's Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) urging protection of U.S. defense equipment security by ensuring export control protection of design information for PCBs for defense equipment. One recommendation is that DDTC make clear that International Traffic in Arms Regulations apply to any PCB designs for defense items on U.S. Munitions List. Several examples of critical importance of PCB design were given.
