Court Ruling on Boiler MACT Stay will cost jobs.

January 13, 2012 Chip Yost, NAM VP for Energy and Resources Policy, issued statement on decision by U.S. District Court in case of Sierra Club against EPA to repeal stay of Boiler MACT and Incinerator rules. According to Yost, court's ruling will severely harm manufacturers' competitiveness, add to uncertainty, and cost vital jobs. It is already 20% more expensive to manufacture in the U.S. compared to trade partners, and regulations such as Boiler MACT continue to set manufacturers back.

Draft covers visual inspection criteria for crystalline solar panels, which are commonly found in solar industry and are ripe for standards development activity. According to IPC's Dave Torp, solar standard development has been an evolutionary process.

January 13, 2012 On December 22, 2011, IPC filed comments with U.S. Department of State's Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) urging protection of U.S. defense equipment security by ensuring export control protection of design information for PCBs for defense equipment. One recommendation is that DDTC make clear that International Traffic in Arms Regulations apply to any PCB designs for defense items on U.S. Munitions List. Several examples of critical importance of PCB design were given.

January 12, 2012 Like many islands, U.S. Virgin Islands are almost 100% dependent on imported oil for electricity. But USVI Gov. John P. de Jongh Jr., working with NREL and U.S. Department of Interior, has vowed to transform energy use dramatically. NREL has helped USVI to map renewable energy potential, and to determine how to get to a 60% reduction by 2025. Recipe to achieve reduction includes 2% biomass, 3% landfill gas, 3% solar, 6% wind, 8% waste-to-energy, and 38% energy efficiency.

January 12, 2012 Released by EPA and accessible to public via GHG Reporting Program, 2010 greenhouse gas (GHG) data comes directly from large facilities and suppliers across USA. Data includes public information from facilities in 9 industry groups that directly emit large quantities of GHGs as well as suppliers of certain fossil fuels. Acknowledging strong collaboration and feedback from industry, states, and other organizations, EPA's Gina McCarthy lauded this as "a transparent, powerful data resource."
Chinese Manufacturer to pay $680,000 penalty.

January 12, 2012 EPA announced settlement with recreational vehicle manufacturers, Loncin (USA), Inc., Longting USA LLC, and Chongqing Longting Power Equipment Co., Ltd., to resolve violations of Clean Air Act related to importation of 7,115 uncertified recreational vehicles. Engines that are not certified may be operating without proper emissions controls, which can emit excess carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides. In addition to penalty, settlement requires mitigation of emissions from non-compliant vehicles.
