EBCI for North American Conditions continues to increase.

January 30, 2012 Electroindustry Business Confidence Index (EBCI) for current North American conditions rose in January to 54.2 from December's reading of 52, and more panelists than not reported improved business environment. Survey's measure of degree of change in current North American conditions rebounded to +0.1 in January from 0.0 in previous month; January's EBCI for future North American conditions climbed to 79.2, highest since May 2011; and index jumped 9+ points in latest month.
Joyce Foundation teams with Manufacturing Institute.

January 30, 2012 Manufacturing Institute received $200,000 grant from Joyce Foundation to enhance use of industry-based credentials in manufacturers' HR practices. Funds will help educate employers about benefits of using certifications to verify skills of new hires and advance those of current employees. Work will focus on creating employer-engagement and demand strategies in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin that can be replicated nationwide to support competitiveness and growth of manufacturing.

January 30, 2012 U.S. Department of Energy will name America's Next Top Energy Innovator in February and wants Americans to vote online for their favorites among 14 technologies. Technologies from DOE's NREL are being used by 3 of the nominees, including an air-conditioning system that uses 40-85% less energy, windows that dynamically change color or reflectivity based on changes in sun's intensity or temperature, and coating that changes color to signal hydrogen or hazardous gas leak.
