BSI Standards Now Available on ANSI Webstore

ANSI announced that its website for purchase of U.S. and other national, regional, or international standards now offers complete collection of standards from British Standards Institution (BSI). Comprised of nearly 30,000 documents, BSI standards address range of topics critical to every industry, and include standards of CEN and CENELEC. According to Stuart V. Radcliffe, BSI content will provide companies exporting to EU with gateway for compliance with New Approach Directives.

SIIA 2010 Information Industry Summit on January 26-27 will include New Yorker columnist Ken Auletta, author of Googled: The End of the World As We Know It, which tells story of Google's beginnings and how it transformed traditional media businesses. Hosted by ASTM International, virtual meeting addressed sustainable textile manufacturing concerns, what it means, and how to determine it. Participants from India, Colombia, Sri Lanka, Europe, and US represented textile firms, testing agencies, academia, and ASTM International. In addition to ASTM's work in sustainability standardization, content included use of E60 forum to meet specific needs, how to address challenges in sustainable textile manufacturing, and other related issues.

Immediate Past President Ron Powell, Past President Greg Julian, and Executive Director Celeste Powers attended Annual UEIL Congress, held this year in Istanbul, Turkey. Powell gave a presentation on ILMA, and Julian attended as Automotive Committee Liaison, which included networking as well as brainstorming ways to work together and move forward. All three representatives attended to continue strengthening the partnership between UEIL and ILMA.

Published in English and French, ISO 3776-3:2009 was developed by technical experts from Europe, Asia, North and South America, working through committee of ISO. International standard specifies requirements for seat belt assemblies on agricultural tractors and self-propelled machinery, and is the third in a series of standards related to seat belt requirements. Compliance with this and other ISO standards for seat belt assemblies will minimize risk to both operator and equipment.

FAA Finalizes Changes in Hudson River Airspace to Enhance Safety

FAA finalized federal rule, effective November 19, 2009, that will enhance safety by separating low-altitude, local aircraft flights over Hudson River from flights transiting through river airspace. According to U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, "Better separation of aircraft means a higher margin of safety." Rule also requires pilots to follow safety procedures that were previously recommended but not mandatory.
