EPA proposes carbon pollution standard for new power plants.

April 9, 2012 Following 2007 Supreme Court ruling, U.S. EPA proposed first Clean Air Act standard for carbon pollution from new power plants. Proposed standard reflects ongoing trend in power sector to build cleaner plants that take advantage of American-made technologies, including new, clean-burning, efficient natural gas generation. Rule also creates path forward for new technologies to be deployed at future facilities that will allow companies to burn coal while emitting less carbon pollution.

If what's true in southern CA proves true for USA, it means rooftop solar power could attract additional 13 million Americans and help push solar energy into mainstream.

According to Brian Zucker, Dell's Director of Performance Engineering, Dell will utilize EEMBC benchmark standards to help select most effective processing solutions for next generation of tablets and mobile devices as well as contribute to EEMBC BrowsingBench, AndEBench, and other relevant benchmark suites.

April 6, 2012 ANSI's Board of Standards Review has approved revision ANSI/AMCA 250-2012, Laboratory Methods of Testing Jet Tunnel Fans for Performance. Standard deals with determination of those technical characteristics needed to describe all aspects of performance of jet tunnel fans. It does not cover fans designed for ducted applications nor those designed solely for air circulation. Procedures relate to laboratory conditions; measurement of performance under in-situ conditions is not included.

April 6, 2012 NIST's Manufacturing Extension Partnership and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office teamed up to create IP Awareness Assessment tool to help small companies and entrepreneurs evaluate their awareness of IP and learn how to protect it. Full assessment comprises questions on 5 IP protection categories: utility patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and design patents. Tool also covers IP best practices, using technology of others, licensing technology to others, and international IP rights.

April 6, 2012 Manufacturers and developers of architectural coatings will be primary users of ASTM D7786, Test Method for Determining Enamel Holdout. Standard was developed by Subcommittee D01.42 on Architectural Coatings, part of ASTM Committee D01 on Paint and Related Coatings, Materials and Applications. According to Keith Alderfer, associate scientist, The Dow Chemical Co., and member of D01.42, enamel holdout characteristic of primer can have significant impact on appearance of finished painted system.
