Roll Powder Metallurgy Lifetime Achievement Award. Lawley has been a prolific contributor to literature of PM science and technology, publishing more than 300 papers. A long-time member of MPIF Technical Board, Lawley has participated in numerous seminars and conferences, and co-chaired technical program of 2008 PM World Congress.
EPA Proposes Clean Air Standards for soot pollution.

June 19, 2012 Building on steps already taken to slash dangerous pollution in communities across USA, U.S. EPA proposed updates to its national air quality standards for harmful fine particle pollution, including soot. Proposal would strengthen annual health standard for harmful fine particle pollution (PM2.5) to level within range of 13-12 g/m; current annual standard is 15 g/m. Proposed changes are based on scientific evidence that includes thousands of studies.

Clean Air Act Standards updated for flares, process heaters.

June 18, 2012 U.S. EPA standards informed by input from stakeholders, including industry, address new flares and process heaters at petroleum refineries. Maintaining public health benefits while reducing costs, final rule provides industry with compliance flexibility and ensures companies can make routine operational changes without triggering new requirements. Updates will reduce emissions of SO2, NOx, and VOCs. As co-benefit, standards will reduce CO2 emissions by as much as 2 million tons/year.

June 15, 2012 U.S. federal agencies unveiled Coordinated Federal Action Plan to Reduce Racial and Ethnic Asthma Disparities. Plan will work to identify children, families, and communities most impacted by asthma disparities and ensure that they receive evidence-based comprehensive care, including access to medical services, education, and environmental interventions. Action plan will also aim to increase understanding of causes of asthma and test interventions that may prevent onset.
EPRI Report addresses retail electric rate structures.

EPRI is collaborating with key industry stakeholders to develop system for characterizing and comparing different retail electric pricing plans. EPRI's report provides language and rate structure descriptions needed to bring all stakeholders onto same page, as well as provide educational materials for newer utility personnel.
Baby Monitor Standard approved by ASTM committee.

June 15, 2012 ASTM F2951, Consumer Safety Specification for Baby Monitors, was developed by Subcommittee F15.68 on Baby Monitors in response U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission report concerning 7 deaths that have resulted from infants strangling in monitor cords when they had been placed too close to crib. According to F15.68 chairman Anthony Paolo, "All cords must now be labeled with a conspicuous strangulation hazard warning label" and stipulates cords should be mounted 3+ ft away from crib.
Proposed Standard to address buried pipe coating repair.

Standard will address function of buried pipe coatings, plant systems that may include buried pipe, generic types of field-applied buried pipe repair and refurbishment coatings, and in-situ factors that affect selection of field-applied buried pipe repair and replacement coatings.
