ASTM member since 1988, Nolan has 33+ years of experience in testing and analysis of packaging and products for shock and vibration hazards in distribution system. He has served as chairman of Committee D10, currently works on several D10 subcommittees, and is involved in several other committees and organizations.
Air Traffic Control Tower Project to create hundreds of jobs.

July 10, 2012 U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Acting FAA Administrator Michael Huerta joined federal and local officials in breaking ground for NextGen-equipped ATC tower at San Francisco International Airport. Project is expected to create 600 total jobs, of which 400 will be in construction. Located between Terminals 1 and 2, tower will be 221 ft tall with 650 ft² controller work area. Three-story, 44,000 ft² base building will house offices, computer equipment, backup generator, and corridors.

NAM says EPA's greenhouse gas regulations will hurt jobs.

July 10, 2012 NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons released statement on behalf of the industry coalition on the ruling by U.S. Court of Appeals for D.C. Circuit on EPA's decision to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from stationary sources through Clean Air Act. According to Timmons, ruling is a setback for businesses facing damaging regulations from the EPA. Regulations are costly, complex, and burdensome and will harm manufacturers' ability to hire, invest, and grow.
IPC releases PCB industry results for May 2012.

July 10, 2012 According to IPC's North American PCB Statistical Program, rigid PCB shipments were down 1.9% in May 2012 from May 2011, but bookings increased 12.0% year over year. Flexible circuit shipments were down 10.0%, and bookings were down 1.1% compared to May 2011. For rigid PCBs and flexible circuits combined, shipments in May 2012 decreased 2.6% from May 2011 and orders booked increased 10.6% from May 2011. Book-to-bill ratios for rigid PCBs and flexible circuits were 1.02 and 1.17, respectively.

According to Greenwood, BIO is pleased that Congress moved quickly to consider, pass, and send legislation to the President well in advance of PDUFA IV expiration. Legislation will enhance development and review of innovative new therapies through increased transparency and scientific dialogue, advancements in regulatory science, and strengthened post-market review.

EPA proposes updates for 2010 cement standards.

July 9, 2012 In response to federal court ruling and data from industry, U.S. EPA is proposing changes to its 2010 air standards for Portland cement manufacturing industry. Proposal would continue significant emission reductions from 2010 standards while providing industry additional compliance flexibilities, including more time to implement proposed updates by extending compliance date for existing cement kilns from September 2013 to September 2015.

Storch, Space Coast business community leaders, and 250+ local workers rallied in Melbourne, FL to warn against threat to U.S. economic and military strength posed by $500 billion in sequestration budget cuts scheduled for January 2013. AIA-commissioned study found Florida could lose 39,246 jobs if Congress does not act to stop such cuts. Speakers said action needs to be taken this summer to enact alternative means of deficit reduction.
