Proposed ASTM Standard addresses transmitted impact force on clothing.

August 3, 2012 ASTM WK38096, Test Method for Measuring Transmitted Impact Force Through Materials Used in Protective Clothing, is proposed standard being developed by Subcommittee F23.20. It will measure amount of energy absorbed by protective item compared to no protection at all. Also, standard will verify quality and performance of protective clothing in regard to transmitted force. Subcommittee is seeking perspectives on transmitted impact force of items like goalkeeper and motorcycle gloves.

Federal Mandatory Safety Standard addresses play yards.

August 3, 2012 U.S. CPSC has approved federal mandatory safety standard for play yards that incorporates provisions of ASTM International standard F406, Consumer Safety Specification for Non-Full-Size Baby Cribs/Play Yards. Some requirements for play yards, as outlined in F406, include: stability test to prevent the play yard from tipping over; latch and lock mechanisms to keep play yard from folding on child; entrapment tests for attachments; floor strength tests; and minimum side height requirements.
ANSI Workshop Report details new search engine standards.

August 2, 2012 ANSI has released workshop report on status of redevelopment of National Standards Search Engine (NSSN). Report details purpose, scope, recommendations, and next steps identified during ANSI Database Design Verification Workshop on March 21, 2012, including addition of keyword search option to NSSN. New version of NSSN may help users find details on existing standards, or ones in similar stages of development, to avoid creation of new standards that duplicate aspects of others.

August 2, 2012 ANSI/ARMA 19-2012, Policy Design for Managing Electronic Messages, outlines requirements for policy guiding the management of electronic messages as records throughout lifecycle, from creation to destruction or disposition. ANSI/IKECA C10-2011, Standard for Cleaning of Commercial Kitchen Exhaust Systems, provides guidance on how to determine frequency and necessity for cleaning through inspection procedures, methods for cleaning exhaust systems, and standards for post-cleaning exhaust conditions.

August 2, 2012 There are 2 proposed ASTM standards being developed that will be used to find major impurities in purified terephthalic acid (PTA) product. Said standards are ASTM WK36121 and K36122, Test Method for Determination of p-Toluic Acid and 4-Carboxybenzaldehyde in Purified Terephthalic Acid by High Performance Liquid Chromatography; and High Performance Capillary Electrophoresis, respectively. Both are being developed by Subcommittee D16.02 on Oxygenated Aromatics.
ASTM Standard helps determine endovascular device shelf life.

August 2, 2012 ASTM F2914, Guide for Identification of Shelf-Life Test Attributes for Endovascular Devices, was developed by Subcommittee F04.30 on Cardiovascular Standards, part of ASTM International Committee F04 on Medical and Surgical Materials and Devices. Standard will enable companies to use engineering testing or fundamental engineering principles to justify whether certain attributes are unaffected by age and whether they need to be tested after aging.
ASABE revises protective agents terminology/definition standard.

August 2, 2012 ASAE S327.4, Terminology and Definitions for Application of Crop or Forestry Production and Protection Agents, was previously titled Terminology and Definitions for Application of Crop, Animal, or Forestry Production and Protection Agents. Governing committee determined standard is no longer used for animal production, and title and scope were revised accordingly. Other changes include format pagination updates and clarifications to spray drift and air assist sprayer definitions.

August 1, 2012 ASTM International Committee F17 on Plastic Piping Systems is developing ASTM WK37233, Specification for Corrugated Polyethylene Pipe and Fittings for Mine Heap Leach Aeration Applications. Specifically, this standard covers requirements and test methods for materials, workmanship, dimensions, perforations, pipe stiffness, elongation, joint separation resistance, quality of extruded polyethylene, brittleness, testing and marking.
ASTM Develops Standard for low-speed vehicle barriers.

August 1, 2012 ASTM WK13074, Test Method for Low Speed Barriers for Errant Vehicles, aims to minimize damage caused by automobile crashes at storefront or other pedestrian areas. Standard will specifically cover bollards, barriers, gates, planters, and other products, used in instances not already covered by high-security K-rated bollards, designed to provide simple security, pedestrian protection, or denial of access to vehicles less than 4,500 lb at traffic speeds of 30 mph and under.
