Tracy Murrell To Serve as NTSB's Director of Marine Safety.

January 18, 2013 Tracy Murrell, former chief safety officer for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., will begin her job as director of NTSB's Office of Marine Safety on January 22. NTSB Chairman Deborah A.P. Hersman called Murrell "an accomplished leader with more than 20 years of experience in the maritime safety industry" and noted her "proven track record of achieving safety results." Murrell holds U.S. Coast Guard master's license and has worked for several shipping companies.
Michael Withers named vice chairman of ASTM board of directors.

He is active on several F24 subcommittees, represents ASTM on European Technical Committee CEN/TC 152, and has been ASTM board of directors member since 2009.

This total, as reported by companies participating in the USMTO program, was down 11.0% from October and down 8.5% when compared with total of $460.86 million reported for November 2011. With year-to-date total of $5,212.17 million, 2012 was up 4.8% compared with 2011.

EPA finalizes revisions to Clean Air Standards.

January 17, 2013 In compliance with settlement agreements, EPA finalized revisions to standards to reduce air pollution from stationary engines that generate electricity and power equipment. Final revised rule will reduce capital and annual costs of original 2010 rules by $287 million and $139 million, respectively, while reducing harmful pollutants, including 2,800 tons/year of hazardous air pollutants; 36,000 tpy of CO; 2,800 tpy of particulate matter; 9,600 tpy of nitrogen oxides; and 36,000 tpy of VOCs.

January 17, 2013 Howard Branz, a solar energy scientist at NREL, has been elected a fellow of the American Physical Society for seminal research on thin film silicon: defects, metastability, growth processes, nano-structuring, and solar cells. Branz is recognized worldwide for his research in nano-structured anti-reflection silicon, solar hydrogen production and defects, and diffusion in semiconductors. He and his National Center for Photovoltaics team won R&D 100 Magazine Award in 2010 for black silicon.
