October 30, 2012 ASTM E2865, Guide for Measurement of Electrophoretic Mobility and Zeta Potential of Nanosized Biological Materials focuses on zeta potential in systems containing biological material, such as proteins, DNA, liposomes, and other organic materials. Developed by Subcommittee E56.02, standard would be used by protein formulation personnel in pharmaceutical industry – particularly those concerned with protein therapies and shelf life stability of preparations.

To participate, presenters/authors must submit 250–300 word preliminary abstract by February 28, 2013 that includes clear definition of objective and approach of work discussed.

Standard measures loss factor and equivalent bending rigidity modulus of composites, drywall, plywood, and similar building elements with aim of comparing damping properties.

October 26, 2012 According to "Public Viewpoint on Manufacturing" survey from Deloitte and The Manufacturing Institute, the public feels that American leadership is off-course in improving manufacturing competitiveness and that the national economy is weak and fragile. Survey found that 59% of Americans believe economy has not improved or gotten better in recent years. Specific to manufacturing sector, only 16% of Americans feel it is likely to improve in next 12 months. In contrast, 23% feel it will weaken.

Recommendation A-12-62 concerns commissioning audit by qualified independent safety experts before start of next major certification flight test program to evaluate flight test safety management system. Recommendation A-12-63 is to provide information about lessons learned from implementation of flight test safety management system to interested manufacturers, flight test industry groups, and other appropriate parties.

This group is under jurisdiction of Subcommittee D07.02 on Lumber and Engineered Wood Products, part of ASTM International Committee D07 on Wood, and aims to standardize process for deriving design properties for SIPs so their reliability and safety are comparable to other engineered wood systems used in wood frame construction.

Regarding current requests that EPA waive the RFS for one year, Greenwood said, "The impact of an RFS waiver on advanced biofuels would be devastating. In fact, it could extend by several years the drought that has endured in investment capital for new advanced biofuels technology."

ELFA's MLFI-25 for September shows new business volume increases.

October 25, 2012 ELFA's Monthly Leasing and Finance Index (MLFI-25) for September shows overall new business volume up 16% from 2011, up 19% from August, and up 16% year-to-date. While receivables over 30 days decreased to 1.8% from 1.9% in August and were down 22% compared to 2011, charge-offs were up from August at 0.5% and down 44% compared to 2011. Credit approvals increased to 79.6%, and 54% of participants reported submitting more transactions for approval during September (down from 65% in August).

Load and resistance factor design methodology developed by AASHTO plays key role in this proposed standard.
