November 16, 2012 A joint effort of IPC and the Wire Harness Manufacturer's Association, B revision of IPC/WHMA-A-620, Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies addresses more than 500 documented comments and recommendations from users throughout the industry, with 125 new or changed illustrations. Document offers expanded molding and potting section for increased coverage of Class 2 and 3 requirements, new criteria for wires as small as 32 AWG, and section on requirements flow down.
NTSB makes safety recommendations to FAA.

November 16, 2012 According to NTSB, the FAA should require aircraft owners, during each triennial re-registration with FAA's aircraft registry, to identify presence and type of safety devices (ejection seats, ballistic recovery systems, or inflatable restraints) that contain explosive components on aircraft. FAA should make information about these safety devices readily available to first responders and accident investigators by displaying it on FAA online aircraft registry.

November 16, 2012 University of Southern California (USC) and NIST researchers demonstrated technique for growing virtually pure samples of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) with identical structures. If it can be scaled up, approach could solve problem in nanoelectronics of producing carbon nanotubes of specific structure to order. Technique developed by NIST researchers for extracting nanotubes of specific twist from solution involves using DNA molecules that bind to one particular nanotube chirality.
NAM Letter urges Congress to allow U.S. exports to Russia.

November 16, 2012 NAM sent Key Vote letter to members of House of Representatives urging passage of Russia and Moldova Jackson-Vanik Repeal Act. Legislation will grant U.S. Permanent Normal Trade Relations with Russia to grow U.S. exports and secure market access. According to NAM's Aric Newhouse, it will support jobs and provide intellectual property protections. Newhouse also said less than 5% of Russian imports were U.S. goods in 2011, providing opportunity to increase exports if bill is passed.

November 15, 2012 ISO Committee on Conformity Assessment has released 2 standards to create confidence among regulators, consumers, suppliers, and other stakeholders that certificates granted by one certification body are same as those of another. They include ISO/IEC 17065:2012, Conformity assessment – Requirements for bodies certifying products, processes and services and ISO/IEC TS 17021-2:2012, Conformity assessment – Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of management systems – Part 2.
YTD U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders are up 5.6% over 2011.

November 15, 2012 According to AMT, September U.S. manufacturing technology orders reported by companies participating in USMTO program totaled $667.47 million. This number is up 40.7% from August and 13.4% from September 2011. With year-to-date (YTD) total of $4,282.11 million, 2012 is up 5.6% compared with 2011. As noted by AMT President Douglas K. Woods, only other month which broke $600 million was also, like September, one that reflected sales from IMTS.
AIA Welcomes Pause concerning EU enforcement of ETS.

November 15, 2012 In her statement on European Union (EU) decision to suspend enforcement of Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), AIA President and CEO Marion C. Blakey said AIA is "especially pleased that the EU has taken last week’s draft ICAO Council decision as the positive impetus it needed to pause its controversial trading scheme." Blakey added that it is important to note said proposal pauses and does not repeal ETS law, passage of which AIA continues to support.
RIA seeks project entries for 2013 innovation awards.

Update also talks about study to find sources of funding for transportation and assessment of permanent fixes following Tropical Storm Irene in 2011.

Jackson determined that, as a result of effects of Hurricane Sandy, extreme and unusual supply circumstances exist, which may result in a temporary shortage of diesel fuel compliant with federal regulations.
