February 13, 2013 InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) has created 2 new groups to serve as US TAGs to Working Groups associated with ISO/IEC JTC 1, Information Technology. INCITS Study Group on Internet of Things will identify standardization gaps and market requirements related to IoT, while INCITS GIT1 will establish functional framework for IT governance and focus on related standards, including documents on digital forensics, corporate governance, and software management.

February 13, 2013 Citing threats to economic health and American jobs, 3,500+ organizations from all sectors of the economy and society joined together to urge immediate end to sequestration budget cuts. Letters from NDD United, AIA, and Task Force on American Innovation were sent to President Obama and congressional leadership, and copies went to every member of Congress. "The danger that sequestration poses to the economy and our national security cannot be overstated," said AIA's Marion C. Blakey.

February 12, 2013 According to February 2013 edition of IPC Commodities Report for the Electronics Industry, all metals IPC tracks for electronics industry experienced double-digit percentage price decreases in 2012, with the exception of gold. After rally in second half of 2012, most prices now appear to be holding steady as markets await outcome of economic developments in Europe, the USA. and China. Forecast for 2013 is a moderate resumption of rising prices for most metals, with exception of nickel.

February 11, 2013 Two new standards developed by ASTM International Committee E56 on Nanotechnology will assist various users in aspects of nanomaterial measurement: ASTM E2834, Guide for Measurement of Particle Size Distribution of Nanomaterials in Suspension by Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis (NTA), and ASTM E2859, Guide for Size Measurement of Nanoparticles Using Atomic Force Microscopy. Both are under jurisdiction of Subcommittee E56.02 on Physical and Chemical Characterization.

February 11, 2013 ASTM F2986, Specification for Corrugated Polyethylene Pipe and Fittings for Mine Leachate Applications, fills need for standard covering strong plastic piping systems that can be used in harsh environment of underground mine leachate systems. Described in ASTM F2986, leachate pipe is designed for deep underground use under harsh chemical exposure from corrosive acid or alkaline effluent. Use of this pipe will prevent premature deterioration of leachate systems in large mine operations.

It permits continuous conductor temperature ratings of -65 to +200°C with silver-coated conductors and -65 to +260°C with nickel-coated conductors.
North American Robotics Market sets several records in 2012.

February 11, 2013 With 2012, North American robotics market recorded its strongest year. Statistics from RIA show total of 22,598 robots, valued at $1.48 billion, were sold to companies in North America. Including sales by to companies outside North America, totals are 25,557 robots valued at $1.66 billion. Compared to 2011, North American orders were up 17% in units and 27% in dollars. Fourth quarter of 2012 was strongest quarter ever recorded by RIA, with 6,235 robots sold to North American companies.
EPA Updates GHG Emissions Data from large facilities.

February 11, 2013 EPA posted second year of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data on its website, which provides public access to emissions data by sector, GHG, and geographic region. EPA's Gina McCarthy commented that this second data release will let people track and compare facilities' GHG emissions and identify opportunities to cut pollution, minimize wasted energy, and save money. Collected in 2011, data includes information from facilities in 41 source categories and 12 additional source categories.
