May 14, 2014 BIO welcomes release of White House National Climate Assessment, because tools of biotechnology are necessary to help mitigate impacts of climate change on human health, energy, and agricultural production. According to recent BIO study, EPA's proposed rule for the Renewable Fuel Standard would increase carbon emissions for 2014 and significantly reverse progress U.S. has made in reducing carbon emissions from the transportation sector that is noted in the National Climate Assessment.
EPA releases EnviroAtlas ecosystem mapping tool.

May 14, 2014 U.S. EPA released EnviroAtlas, a web-based interactive tool that integrates over 300 separate data layers, helping decision makers understand the implications of planning and policy decisions on fragile ecosystems and the communities who depend on goods and services from these ecosystems. EnviroAtlas can help people learn about ecosystems, and how they provide benefits such as clean air and water, opportunities for recreation, and protection from severe weather, such as hurricanes and floods.
National Research Council praises EPA IRIS program enhancements.

May 14, 2014 U.S. EPA actions to improve its Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) program, which provides information regarding health effects of environmental contaminants, were applauded in report by National Academies' NRC. Specifically, report commends EPA for its substantive new approaches, continued commitment to improving process, as well as successes thus far. NRC expects completion of planned revisions "in a timely way" and that said revisions will "transform the IRIS program."

Each is explored across avionics, ground-based systems, missiles and aviation systems, space systems, and submarine and sea systems.

EPA announces funding to clean up diesel engines nationwide.

May 12, 2014 EPA announced availability of $9 million in grant funding for clean diesel projects to reduce diesel pollution and emissions exposure from nation's existing fleet of diesel engines. Under this funding, EPA anticipates awarding between 10 and 20 assistance agreements. Various strategies are eligible for achieving diesel emission reductions, such as installing verified exhaust control and idle reduction devices, and vehicle and engine replacement.

May 12, 2014 AAMA has released AAMA 2013/2014 Study of the U.S. Market for Windows, Doors and Skylights. According to study, total conventional housing starts in 2013 experienced considerable increase and are forecasted to grow 20% in 2014. Conventional residential window applications increased by 15.8% to 43.9 million units, compared to 37.9 million units in 2011. Nonresidential market increased 9% in 2013 and is expected to continue to increase in 2014 throughout 2017.

Automakers on track in meeting greenhouse gas standards.

May 7, 2014 U.S. EPA released a Manufacturers Performance Report that assesses the automobile industry's progress toward meeting greenhouse gas emissions standards for cars and light trucks in 2012 model year — the first year of this 14 year program. Report reveals that consumers bought cleaner vehicles in the first year of the program than the 2012 GHG standard required, and that automakers are off to a good start in meeting program requirements.

May 7, 2014 NEMA praised House Energy and Commerce Committee for reporting out the Energy Savings through Public-Private Partnerships Act of 2013 (HR 2689). According to NEMA President/CEO Evan R. Gaddis, there is no better example of a public-private partnership than energy savings performance contracts, which this bill encourages. Contracts use private financing to renovate government buildings at no cost to taxpayer in a way that reduces energy consumption, creates jobs, and offers return on investment.
