CAMEST's principal goal is bringing together electronics supply chain stakeholders to locate gaps in technology and find solutions to fill those gaps.
ASTM to hold symposium on ultra-high performance concrete.

May 15, 2013 Scheduled for December 8, 2013, symposium on Ultra-High Performance Concrete will provide forum to discuss where current ASTM test methods for concrete are inadequate for UHPC, to propose new tests for UHPC, and to exchange ideas as to where new tests need to be developed. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates, symposium will be held in conjunction with the December standards development meetings of the committee.

May 15, 2013 Scheduled for Oct 24, 2013, workshop on the State of Science and Best Practice in Mold Assessment, Sampling and Analysis will provide overview of standards available to date; exchange ideas on current practices needing standardization; discuss current state of the science; and identify needs for the future. ASTM is seeking input on two guides in progress, one for sampling strategy and one for post remediation verification, to help appropriately address state of the technology and practice.

Eleven teachers from USA earned recognition for exceptional work as leaders in field of environmental education in formal school settings. EPA Acting Administrator Bob Perciasepe noted the "innovative steps" taken by said recipients and expressed gratitude for the presence of "exceptional educators" in American classrooms.

March U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders see 30% gain.

May 15, 2013 According to AMT, March U.S. manufacturing technology orders totaled $507.91 million, which was up 30.4% from February and 3.2% when compared with total of $491.96 million reported for March 2012. With year-to-date total of $1,278.05 million, 2013 is down 5.0% compared with 2012. These numbers and all data in this report are based on totals of actual data reported by companies participating in the United States Manufacturing Technology Orders program.
EPA strengthens conflict of interest review process.

May 14, 2013 U.S. EPA announced that it has improved its conflict of interest review process for contractor-managed peer reviews. Agency has put a new oversight process in place to ensure that contractors follow all existing conflicts of interest guidance and requirements. In addition, EPA will now ensure that the public has the opportunity to review and comment on peer review panel’s composition when influential scientific documents are being considered.

EPA to Award Over Half Billion to NY/NJ areas impacted by Sandy.

May 13, 2013 U.S. EPA will provide grants of $340 million to New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and $229 million to New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection for improvements to wastewater and drinking water treatment facilities impacted by Hurricane Sandy. This funding will give both states capacity to reduce risks of flood damage and increase resiliency of wastewater and drinking water facilities as to withstand effects of severe storms similar to Sandy.

May 13, 2013 Released by U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and U.S. EPA, scientific report on honey bee health states that there are multiple factors – including parasites and disease, genetics, poor nutrition, and pesticide exposure – contributing to honey bee colony declines. Acting EPA Administrator Bob Perciasepe called this "a complex problem" and affirmed EPA's commitment to continuing to work with USDA, researchers, beekeepers, growers, and public to address this challenge.
NEMA Publishes Standard on single-ended metal halide lamps.

May 13, 2013 On behalf of American National Standard Lighting Group (ANSLG), NEMA published ANSI/ANSLG C78.43 American National Standard for Electric Lamps—Single-Ended Metal Halide Lamps. This standard, to ensure interchangeability and safety, poses physical and electrical requirements for single-ended metal halide lamps operated on 60 Hz ballasts. Also, standard provides basis for electrical requirements for ballasts and ignitors as well as lamp-related requirements for luminaires.
