These include drafts of Standard ANSI/HI 1.4 Rotodynamic (Centrifugal) Pumps for Manuals Describing Installation, Operation, and Maintenance and ANSI/HI 2.4 Rotodynamic (Vertical) Pumps for Manuals Describing Installation, Operation, and Maintenance. Pump users, specifiers, producers, standards developers, government agencies, and others may apply.

May 8, 2013 Under approval of ANSI, Hydraulic Institute is seeking participants to review updated Standard ANSI/HI 2.1-2.2 Rotodynamic (Vertical) Pumps of Radial, Mixed, and Axial Flow Types for Nomenclature and Definitions.  Standard covers vertical turbine, mixed flow, axial flow vertical diffuser, submersible motor deepwell, and short-set pumps. Vertically suspended and overhung impeller types are also included. Institute is assembling canvass list of interested parties, to be submitted to ANSI.
EPA releases revised Bristol Bay Assessment.

May 8, 2013 Available for peer review follow-up and public comment, revised version of Bristol Bay Assessment includes updates following initial peer review and public comment period of draft released May, 2012. Some key changes to assessment include: refinement and better explanation of mine scenarios assessed; appendix describing methods to compensate for impacts to wetlands, streams, and fish; and information on potential transportation corridor, including analysis of potential diesel pipeline spills.

ANSI senior management and staff provided delegation with overview of U.S. system and ANSI's role as well as detailed information about ANSI's accreditation activities. Following discussion on April 22, ANSI and GSO agreed to identify further areas for cooperation and mutual information exchange.

May 7, 2013 At the recent Leadership Summit & Industry Expo in Las Vegas, Kelmann Restoration received the Phoenix Award for Innovation in Restoration, while Platinum Restoration received the Phoenix Award for Innovation in Reconstruction. Kelmann was recognized for its innovative work following the restoration of the St. Alphonsus Parish and School after a fire. Platinum Restoration was chosen for their restoration of an historical home built in 1898.

Course is based on ANSI Z136.3 standard Safe Use of Lasers in Health Care, which is recognized by OSHA and The Joint Commission.
AWEA Board of Directors names Tom Kiernan as new CEO.

Kiernan has served as President of the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) since 1998 and will assume his new role on May 28. In comment, AWEA Board of Directors Chair Tom Carnahan praised Kiernan's "bipartisan, practical experience at the national and state levels as well as in small, rural communities."
ASABE revises standard for peanut drying systems.

Capabilities will facilitate characterization and troubleshooting, instrument calibration, and communication.
NIST transfers time signals over wireless optical channel.

May 6, 2013 By bouncing eye-safe laser pulses off mirror on hillside, researchers at NIST have transferred ultra precise time signals through open air with precision equivalent to "ticking" of world's best next-generation atomic clocks. Described in Nature Photonics, demonstration shows how next-generation atomic clocks at different locations could be linked wirelessly to improve geodesy, distribution of time and frequency information, satellite navigation, radar arrays, and other applications.

May 6, 2013 Following Office of U.S. Trade Representative's (USTR) release of Special 301 Report, BIO shared concern over weak IP enforcement efforts of foreign nations. Report details failings of India, China, Brazil, and Canada, among others, to provide adequate IP protection for biotechnology companies, or their adding of bureaucratic hurdles to patentability. Organization encouraged USTR, in recent Special 301 Submission, to perform out-of-cycle reviews of these countries' patent systems.

Holder is BELFOR's national safety director and heads Environmental Services division. In restoration industry for over 20 yr, he served on task force that created RIA Glossary of Standardized Terms, and on RIA Restoration Council. Holder currently serves on association's task force creating first restoration industry accounting guideline.

May 6, 2013 U.S. EPA, Department of Justice, and U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Wisconsin announced Clean Air Act settlement with Wisconsin Power and Light Company that will reduce air pollution from 3 coal-fired power plants located near Portage, Sheboygan, and Cassville. WPL and its co-defendants agreed to invest more than $1 billion in pollution control, spend $8.5 million on environmental mitigation projects, and pay civil penalty of $2.45 million to resolve alleged violations of CAA.
