June 25, 2013 Development plans announced by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's administration include 1,100-room hotel, to be completed in 2016, plus 500-room hotel to be built afterward. Included in plans is arena for DePaul Blue Demons basketball team where conferences, meetings, and concerts will also be hosted. Totaling $1.1 billion, plans provide for greater choice of options for IMTS exhibitors and attendees. Redevelopment of Navy Pier and expansion of Children's Museum are also planned.

Jim Greenwood, BIO President and CEO, said those involved "should be applauded for their efforts to ensure that the newest flu vaccines will be covered by the VICP in time for flu season, ensuring patient access to the latest therapies."

May Equipment Finance Index shows business volume holding steady.

June 25, 2013 ELFA's Monthly Leasing and Finance Index for May indicates 21% increase in new business volume compared to May 2012, at $7.5 billion, unchanged from April 2013. Year to date, cumulative new business volume was up 11%. Index also showed receivables over 30 days declined to 1.6%, while charge-offs remained unchanged and credit approvals increased to 78.8%. William G. Sutton, ELFA President and CEO, said data suggest equipment finance sector is on verge of breakout performance.

BIO Official defends biofuels standard to House Committee.

June 25, 2013 BIO submitted comments to House Committee on Energy and Commerce in response to 4th white paper reviewing Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). Document examines goals and achievements of RFS as part of national energy policy. According to BIO's Brent Erickson, biofuels technology is helping U.S. economy by mitigating impact of high oil costs and reducing gas prices. He also said RFS2 has further developed domestic biofuels industry, reducing dependence on foreign fuels and creating jobs.

Rather than filling jobs with contractors from distant cities, EWDJT grants provide employment opportunities for local residents to participate in revitalization of their communities.
