Key objectives of negotiations should include removing regulatory, tariff, and other barriers to trade and investment between EU and the U.S. In addition, manufacturers are urging Administration and Congress to work together to renew Trade Promotion Authority for the President.

March 29, 2013 ELFA Monthly Leasing and Finance Index (MLFI-25) showed overall new business volume for February was $4.7 billion, down 6% from February 2012 and 20% from January 2013. For year to date, cumulative new business volume was up 5% compared to 2012. Down from February's index of 58.7, Monthly Confidence Index (MCI-EFI) of 58.0 for March is said to reflect a leveling off in industry participants' optimism after 2 consecutive increases.

Economist notes cautious optimism for recovery.

March 28, 2013 During AAMA's 76th Annual Conference, economist Dr. Esmael Adibi discussed continued growth of U.S. housing market, namely the expected 3.5% increase of home prices in 2013. However, he notes overall economic growth will remain weak. NAHB reported nearly 16% increase in new-home sales for January to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 437,000 units. In addition, Adibi is forecasting significant increase in housing starts, from 765,000 units in 2012 to 968,000 units in 2013.

March 27, 2013 ASTM WK38747, Specification for Cylindrical Billets Made from Stress-Rated HDPE by Accumulation Winding of Molten Extruded Material Over a Mandrel, will be used by companies that manufacture complex shaped pressure pipe components. This proposed standard is being developed by Subcommittee F17.26 and, according to F17 member Bryan Hauger, will contain requirements for materials used to manufacture billets as well as QC measures, performance requirements, test protocols, and standard sizes.

March 27, 2013 Subcommittee F04.12 on Metallurgical Materials has developed ASTM F2989, Specification for Metal Injection Molded Unalloyed Titanium Components for Surgical Implant Applications. According to E04 member Matthias Scharvogel, this standard allows for design of new geometries and reduces manufacturing costs. It covers chemical, mechanical, and metallurgical requirements for 3 grades and also defines requirements as baseline for regulatory bodies.
