This indicates that the power transmission/motion control industry expanded for 13th consecutive quarter at a slower pace compared with 1Q13. Conducted jointly by PTDA and Cleveland Research Company, PTDA Business Index tracks change in business activity, new orders, employment, supplier deliveries, inventories, prices, and backlog.

This study also suggests current advantages of China-based manufacturers can be reproduced in USA.
U.S. reaches settlement with Safeway to reduce emissions.

September 9, 2013 In settlement agreement with U.S., Safeway grocery store chain has agreed to pay $600,000 civil penalty and implement corporate-wide plan to significantly reduce emissions of ozone-depleting substances from refrigeration equipment at 659 stores nationwide, estimated to cost $4.1 million. Settlement resolves allegations that Safeway violated federal Clean Air Act by failing to promptly repair leaks of HCFC-22, and failed to keep adequate records of refrigeration equipment servicing.

September 9, 2013 EPA has released a document that provides resources and information for communities affected by recent restructuring of U.S. auto industry. As these cities and towns move forward with efforts to rebuild sustainable and economically vibrant communities, the "Roadmap for Auto Community Revitalization" highlights case studies of auto towns, as well as sources of funding and technical assistance currently available to communities with historical ties to the automotive industry, or auto communities.

September 9, 2013 In his statement regarding passage of Senate Bill 598, BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood commended California's Assembly and Senate for "overwhelmingly passing legislation that creates a pathway for the substitution of interchangeable biologic medicines." Greenwood also expressed support for this legislation and encouraged Governor Brown to sign this bill. "BIO is pleased," said Greenwood, "that the California Legislature passed this legislation and continues to put patients first."

AASHTO, AAA, and U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced top 10 finalists in 2013 America's Transportation Awards competition. This year, 24 states entered total of 36 projects into competition in categories of Ahead of Schedule, Under Budget, and Best Use of Innovation.
North American PCB Sales, Orders continue upward trend in July.

September 6, 2013 July 2013 findings of IPC's North American PCB Statistical Program show sales and order growth continuing to trend upward. Total North American PCB shipments decreased 1.5% from July 2012 and bookings increased 10.2% percent year over year, while year to date shipments were down 4.2% and bookings were up 0.1%. Compared to previous month, PCB shipments and bookings were down respectively 13.7% and 3.2%. Bookings exceeded shipments in July, and PCB book-to-bill ratio strengthened to 1.06.

AAMA updates side-hinged door specification.

September 4, 2013 AAMA has updated AAMA 925-13, Specification for Determining the Vertical Loading Resistance of Side-Hinged Door Systems, which determines ability of side-hinged door systems to remain operable following application of vertical load along lock stile of door leaf. Specification was updated from 2007 document to include requirement for force-to-latch at beginning of testing, minimum number of times testing will be conducted, and repetition of force-to-latch measurements.

Two California Firms agree to settle Clean Air Act violations.

September 4, 2013 MotorScience Inc., MotorScience Enterprise Inc., and their owner, Chi Zheng, have agreed to settle alleged CAA violations stemming from illegal import of 24,478 all-terrain, recreational vehicles into U.S. from China without testing to ensure emissions would meet applicable limits on harmful air pollution. MotorScience and Zheng have agreed to have stipulated judgment entered against them for $3.55 million civil penalty and to pay additional $60,000 civil penalty within 6 months.

August 30, 2013 According to statistics from AIA, total machine vision sales in North America climbed 6% compared to second quarter of 2012. Machine vision systems category, which includes ASMV and smart cameras, was the main driver of growth with 7% increase over second quarter 2012. Conversely, sales of machine vision components decreased by 2%. Cameras and software both saw decreases in second quarter, while lighting, optics, and imaging boards all increased over last year.
