March 10, 2009 Advancing gas analysis technology is leading to development of proposed ASTM International standard, WK22331, Test Method for Simultaneous Determination of Oxygen, Nitrogen, and Hydrogen in Titanium and Titanium Alloys by the Inert Gas Fusion Technique. ASTM is looking for laboratories to participate in interlaboratory study to help develop proposed standard.

March 10, 2009 Companies are urged to lobby the European Union (EU) Council and Parliament with regards to the new revision for the RoHS Directive that calls for the restriction of Tetrabromobisphenol-A (TBBPA), the flame retardant used in more than 80 percent of printed circuits. The Oko Institut, private consultants hired by the EU Commission, identified TBBPA for possible restriction under RoHS even though it has been determined to be safe for the environment and human health.

Langill, who joined ASTM International in 1994, was cited "for major contributions to development of corrosion test methods for metals in atmosphere and construction materials as well as coated steel hardware standards in Committees G01 on Corrosion of Metals and A05 on Metallic-Coated Iron and Steel Products."
New Safety Measures sought for mobile acetylene trailers.

March 6, 2009 The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) recommended that the U.S. Department of Transportation modify federal regulations addressing adequacy of mobile acetylene trailer design for protection during transport as well as effectiveness and safety of current unloading procedures. Also, NTSB asked Compressed Gas Association to review its standard for fire suppression systems at loading/unloading facilities.

Previously, she was chief of staff for 4 FAA administrators, served in chief counsel's office, and was an attorney in FAA's Eastern Region in New York. John Hickey, director of FAA's Aircraft Certification Service since 2000, will replace Gilligan as deputy assistant administrator for aviation safety. Other changes can be found in full release.

March 5, 2009 The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) urged federal policymakers not to overturn a U.S. Department of the Interior rule that streamlines procedures under Endangered Species Act in order to expedite energy development and construction projects. Keith McCoy, NAM Vice President of Energy and Resources Policy, stated that the decision, if carried out, would work against job creation goals of the recently-signed stimulus legislation by reinstating bureaucratic hurdles.
