February 11, 2009 According to BIO/Thomson Reuters investor perception study, biotechnology industry is expected to rebound and outperform rest of market this year. Study provides in-depth assessment of Wall Street's views of biotech industry, its current challenges, relative valuation, and outlook for 2009. More than 2/3 of participants expect greater merger and acquisition volume in 2009, with major pharmaceutical companies buying biotech of all sizes and large biotechs buying smaller biotech companies.

February 11, 2009 According to AMT and AMTDA, December U.S. manufacturing technology consumption totaled $194.01 million, which was down 2.2% from November and 53.8% from total of $419.80 million reported for December 2007. With year-to-date total of $4,211.79 million, 2008 is down 2.4% compared with 2007. United States Manufacturing Technology Consumption report provides regional and national U.S. consumption data of domestic and imported machine tools and related equipment.
TRFA calls for technical papers for 2009 Annual Meeting.

February 10, 2009 The PTDA Foundation raised $315,259 during its 2008 fund drive, 24% more than 2007. This includes 38% increase in gifts of $5,000 or more along with 26 first-time donors. Supporting the foundation were 7 Industrial Careers Pathways® Alliance Partners as well as others that provided Partner-, Investor-, and Stakeholder-level contributions. In 2008, PTDA Foundation held a first-time Pledge-A-Thon for smaller companies, which it plans to repeat in 2009.

February 10, 2009 The Fieldbus Foundation announced that Wireless Cooperation Team (WCT) achieved milestones toward developing an interface specification and compliance guidelines for integrating universal wireless solution into HART(TM), FOUNDATION(TM) fieldbus, PROFIBUS, and PROFINET networks. The effort was sponsored by Fieldbus Foundation, HART Communication Foundation, and Profibus Nutzerorganisation e.V., which have collaborated on EDDL technology since 2003 and formed WCT in September 2007.

PTDA 2009 Survey shows member optimism during recession.

February 10, 2009 PTDA's 2009 Member Forecast Survey shows 79 manufacturer respondents are more optimistic about 2009 sales than 58 distributor participants, with half of manufacturers predicting sales to increase in 2009. Member companies seek to grow sales relationships, while some are hoping to acquire new customers. According to Justin Aschenbrenner, Alan Beaulieu predicted tough times for PTDA members, but cautions against pessimism, citing companies that work with economic cycles will benefit more.

Standards used include IEC 60825, Safety of Laser Products Package as well as ISO 17123-8:2007, which outlines field procedures for testing geodetic and surveying instruments. Framework guidance for use of LiDAR will be outlined in draft standard BSR/INCITS PN-1844-D-200x, Information technology - Topographic LiDAR Remote.

February 6, 2009 ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board/ACLASS and iNARTE have signed memorandum of agreement that provides framework for ACLASS to cooperate in developing training for iNARTE's professional certification programs. To ensure proper training, skills, and expertise, iNARTE will begin certification for Certified Test Laboratory Auditors. In addition, both organizations will cooperate in developing educational workshops and programs for laboratory professionals.
