February 18, 2009 According to AMT Laser Market Data Survey, orders of industrial laser equipment and systems in 2008 are reported at $475.0 million, a decrease of 12.7% from 2007. Orders within North America totaled $350.1 million, while exports amounted to approximately $124.9 million. Report shows that value of orders of CO2 lasers decreased 4.9% from 2007, totaling $438.0 million, while Nd:YAG orders decreased 52.3% from 2007, totaling $36.9 million.

They include B957, Specification for Extra-High-Strength and Ultra-High-Strength Zinc-Coated Steel Core Wire for Overhead Electrical Conductors, and B958, Specification for Extra-High-Strength and Ultra-High-Strength Class A Zinc-5% Aluminum-Mischmetal Alloy-Coated Steel Core Wire for Use in Overhead Electrical Conductors.

February 18, 2009 ASTM International released Manual 5, Aviation Fuel Quality Control Procedures: 4th Edition, which explains procedures used by fuel handlers to assess/protect aviation fuel quality. Document includes rewritten API gravity section with information on metric density, fuel sampling techniques reflecting changes in ASTM D4306, and section on flushing new aviation fuel hoses. Also, 55 pg document offers filtration equipment and microbial contamination detection sections based on updated standards.

Manufactured goods exports rose 7% in 2008, to $1.05 trillion, while imports rose less than 1%, to $1.49 trillion. For full year of 2008, trade with all U.S. free trade partners as a group was in surplus by $17 billion. These data confirm that free trade agreements are in country's national interest.

February 13, 2009 It is estimated that states could produce more than 5,000 highway projects valued at $65 billion and create 1.8 million jobs. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood invited state transportation leaders to meet with him and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel to discuss transportation component of economic recovery package. At meeting, representatives from 37 state DOTs confirmed that they can deliver job-creating transportation projects once economic recovery legislation is signed into law.
