Major shifts in transportation policy should also be considered.

June 26, 2009 BIO issued a statement regarding the agreement reached among the Obama administration, Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), and Senate Finance Committee to close coverage gap in Medicare's prescription drug program. It was said the deal would be examined by measuring its impact on the ability of biotechnology researchers to continue to develop and produce breakthrough medicines and therapies for patients suffering from debilitating diseases.
IPC releases PCB industry results for May 2009.

June 26, 2009 According to North American PCB Statistical Program, rigid PCB shipments were down 34.2% and bookings were down 25.7% in May 2009 from May 2008, while book-to-bill ratio climbed to 1.03. Flexible shipments were down 3.0% and bookings were down 12.9% compared to May 2008. Flexible circuit book-to-bill ratio inched up to 0.96. For rigid PCBs and flexible circuits combined, industry shipments in May 2009 decreased 32.2% from May 2008 and orders booked decreased 24.8%.
NAM President supports funding for infrastructure.

June 26, 2009 National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) President, John Engler, issued a statement following the markup of the Surface Transportation Authorization Act of 2009 by a House subcommittee on Highways and Transit. He commended Jim Oberstar and John Mica for managing the bi-partisan work, which he said effectively addressed the future solvency of the Highway Trust Fund and the need to reauthorize surface transportation programs before September 30, 2009.
FAA Administrator calls for commitment to airline safety.

June 26, 2009 FAA Administrator, Randy Babbitt, announced an expedited review of flight and rest rules and called on US airlines and unions to respond, by July 31, with commitments to strengthen safety at regional and major airlines. The FAA will work to develop and implement a flight time and rest rule based on fatigue science. It will also complete a review of airline procedures for identifying and tracking pilots who fail evaluations or demonstrate a repetitive need for additional training.

Bill includes recommendations that NEMA provided when it testified before committee in March. Some key provisions include: create Clean Energy Investment Fund, establish national Renewable Electricity Standard, require FERC to develop interconnection-wide transmission plan, and establish financing mechanisms for large and small manufacturers.

In these comments, NEMA provided proposals that will result in significant energy savings by removing least efficient lighting products on market. Document includes several scenarios that would result in phase-out of T12 lamp without causing disruption in marketplace.

June 25, 2009 OPC Foundation has announced successful demonstration of data exchange between applications using OPC UA Analyzer Device Integration information model at ACHEMA Exhibition. Prototype of OPC UA client for OSIsoft PI System collected ADI server's spectral data, which was then visualized in Excel using PI DataLink. Results of reference implementation efforts prove that ADI specification can be implemented in way that allows connectivity with virtually any OPC UA client.

FDI Team performed inventory of use case analysis and designed draft architecture concept and draft functional specifications. Field Device Integration is realized by Device Package containing EDDL components and optional programmed component.

According to AEM President, Dennis Slater, if Congress can make long term commitment to investing in infrastructure, contractors will be able to make needed investment in capital equipment that will meet short term need to put people back to work and long term need to repair and update US infrastructure.
