ANSI seeks comments on proposal for ISO Standard.

June 12, 2009 Standards Institution of Israel has submitted proposal to ISO for standard on treated wastewater reuse implementations. As U.S. member body to ISO, ANSI invites interested stakeholders to submit comments by July 24. Proposed standard will cover requirements and processes involved in healthy, environmentally viable, and sustainable reuse of treated wastewater in agriculture, landscape, and industry. It will also offer guidelines for design, construction, operation, and maintenance of such systems.
Canadian Municipalities oppose 'Buy American' provisions of ARRA.

June 12, 2009 Federation of Canadian Municipalities passed resolution giving U.S. government 120 days to broker fair trade deal or face consequences of U.S. companies being restricted from bidding on Canadian infrastructure projects. David Angelo, Chairman of WWEMA, had previously sent letter to Congress and White House warning of risks associated with employing protectionist measures in stimulus bill. In 2008, the United States exported $6.18 billion in water and wastewater equipment and piping to Canada.

According to Brent Erickson, EVP of BIO's Industrial and Environmental Section, deployment of advanced technologies depends critically on continued growth and evolution of first-generation biofuels, and on fair, consistent, flexible, and reliable regulatory support from federal government.

Rules and protocols are specified for organizing, describing, and defining transportation management information to be exchanged between applications and/or transportation equipment to encourage interoperability. It defines how NTCIP 1200-series data dictionaries organize and identify objects and define object specifications/meta-attributes/management information bases.

June 11, 2009 According to NEMA market research, conducted in conjunction with Today's Facility Manager magazine, information on energy/cost savings through modern lighting systems is needed. Findings show 41% of building owners plan to upgrade lighting within 1 yr, while 82% did not know commercial building tax deduction was extended. According to Ron Runkles, lighting industry director for NEMA, "We're providing a service by letting people know there is a quick payback by investing in lighting renovation."

Produced by ANSI C18 committee on Portable Cells and Batteries, it provides requirements/information related to consumer batteries, with specifications for nomenclature, dimensions, polarity, terminals, marking, test conditions, and procedures. Chemical system, tests for popular consumer batteries, and reformatted battery specification sheets have been added.

June 11, 2009 Produced by ICEA Energy Division Working Group 440, ANSI/NEMA WC 51-2009/ICEA P-54-440 Standard provides ampacity ratings for 600-15,000 V solid dielectric cables installed in cable trays, tabulated for single conductor cables, triplexed assemblies of single conductor cables, and 3-conductor cables incorporating overall jacket. Correction factors are provided to adjust tabulated values for ambient and operating temperatures, cable construction, tray covers, and diversification of cable loading.

Since Dec 2008, index has rebounded from near record low of 8 to 47.9, within sight of 50-point threshold indicative of absolute improvement in industry conditions. Survey results support view that electroindustry is approaching cyclical trough as steep declines abate and expectations in second half of year improve.
