Environmental Gages leverage thin-film technology.

Thin film-based environmental gauges are manufactured by depositing environmentally susceptible coating materials onto inert substrate. Coating materials are deposited in custom-defined, quasi-grid pattern of lines. Redundant traces, matched in length and size, can be implemented to monitor environmental changes over small region or provide damage protection in abrasive conditions. Unmatched lines allow for variable open-space monitoring of increasing corrosion or corrosive elements.

In addition to CERTO length gauge and ND 287 single-axis position display with Statistical Process Control (SPC), universal HEIDENHAIN ND 287 also has card for gauge hookup as well as other sensors. Length gauges, respectively, measure ranges of 0-25 and 0-60 mm with ±0.1 and ±0.01 µm accuracy (±0.03 and ±0.05 µm after error compensation). Digital readout (DRO) offers various features to integrate with machine data transfer network, including 4 inputs and ability to toggle between them.
