Added to pure electric drive vehicles, modular Range Extender APU extends operational range beyond that obtainable in pure electric mode. Autonomous auxiliary power unit employs 250 cc rotary engine running at 5,000 rpm with permanent magnet synchronous machine. Electric output is 15 kW at 320-420 V, and fuel consumption is 260 g/kWh. System-to-vehicle interfaces include high- and low-voltage, CAN bus, fuel supply, mounts, and cooling.
