At its July meeting, NEMA Board of Governors welcomed Stephanie Mains, who was elected to board earlier this spring. Mains is CEO of GE's Industrial Solutions business, which is part of GE Energy Connections. She has 26 years of experience at GE in finance, operations, and business management. NEMA announced that ANSI Accredited Standards Committee C136 published ANSI C136.49-2016 American National Standard for Roadway and Area Lighting Equipment—Plasma Lighting. Standard defines the electrical and mechanical requirements of plasma type light sources for use in roadway and area lighting luminaires. Announced by AIM, Ultracode international standard establishes significant enhancement in barcode technology for automatic identification and data capture (AIDC) industry and consumerization. EPA Announces Funds to clean up contaminated brownfield sites.

U.S. EPA announced ~$10.7 million in supplemental funding to help communities clean up contaminated brownfield properties. Supplemental funding, provided to 33 successful Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) grantees, is specifically intended to help 40+ communities carry out cleanup and redevelopment projects that will also help communities create jobs and protect people's health and environment. NEMA announced that ANSI Accredited Standards Committee C82 revised ANSI C82.3-2016 Reference Ballasts for Fluorescent Lamps, which describes essential design features and operating characteristics of reference ballasts. Items specified are those that have been found necessary to ensure accurate and reproducible results when either lamps or ballasts are being tested.
