IPC Developing Standard for high-reliability press-fit pins.

IPC will develop new standard to cover qualifications and acceptance requirements for press-fit pin technology. With expected released date of late 2017, this anticipated standard will be first to support press-fit pin requirements for high-reliability applications in automotive, aerospace, and other industries. Joe Robinson named vice chair of MITA Board of Directors.

At its July 14 meeting, Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance Board of Directors elected Joe Robinson as vice chair, effective immediately. Robinson, the senior vice president of health systems solutions at Philips Healthcare, will assume the role of chair of the board in January 2017. He started his career in medical imaging with a small mid-Atlantic business and has spent the past 30 years in medical systems across multiple, large healthcare companies. Read More

EPA, DOT Finalize Heavy-Duty Truck emissions, efficacy standards.

Finalized jointly by U.S. EPA and U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), standards for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles aim to improve fuel efficiency and cut carbon pollution while bolstering energy security and promoting manufacturing innovation. Based on research conducted by NREL, "Online Purchasing Creates Opportunities to Lower the Life Cycle Carbon Footprints of Consumer Products" shows how companies can reduce supply chain carbon footprint and improve customer satisfaction. Researchers looked at methods of presenting carbon footprint information (eco-labeling) as well as offering option to add carbon offsets to bills. NEMA's Ken Gettman honored with ANSI Finegan Standards Medal.

ANSI announced that Ken Gettman, the international standards director at NEMA, is the 2016 recipient of the Finegan Standards Medal, which honors individuals who have shown extraordinary leadership in development and application of voluntary standards. An engineer by training, Gettman has worked at NEMA for the past 22 years, before which he worked at Underwriters Laboratories and served in the United States Navy. North American PCB Market Report provided IPC’s final estimates of 2015 market size for rigid PCBs and flexible circuits in North America. Although PCB production decreased 4.3% in 2015 to $2.9 billion, PCB market grew 1.4% to estimated $3.4 billion. Growth in North American PCB market was driven by flexible circuit sales, which increased in double digits in 2014, while rigid PCB sales declined slightly. NREL has named Dr. Johney Green Jr. as Associate Laboratory Director for Mechanical and Thermal Systems Engineering. He will oversee laboratory's transportation, buildings, wind, water, and geothermal research programs.
