EPA proposes increase in renewable fuel levels.

May 20, 2016

EPA proposed increases in renewable fuel volume requirements across all types of biofuels under the Renewable Fuel Standard program. Total renewable fuel volumes would grow by nearly 700 million gallons from 2016–2017. Advanced renewable fuel, which requires 50% lifecycle carbon emissions reductions, would grow by nearly 400 million gallons from 2016–2017. Biomass-based biodiesel, which must achieve at least 50% lifecycle emissions reductions, would grow by 100 million gallons from 2017–2018. Read More

NEMA says consumers should have choice in light bulbs.

In written comments filed with the U.S. Department of Energy by NEMA, U.S. lighting manufacturers reaffirmed their position that consumers should have multiple options when selecting the type of light bulbs to purchase. NEMA’s comments took issue with requirements in DOE-proposed energy efficiency rule aimed at forcing exclusive adoption of LED bulbs, thereby denying consumer choice and disrupting the ongoing and rapid market transition to energy-efficient lighting. NREL Announces Winners of 26th Solar and Lithium-Ion Car Races.

In total, 57 teams from 15 Colorado middle schools competed in 26th Annual Junior Solar Sprint and Lithium-Ion Battery car competitions. Students were required to race solar- and lithium-ion battery powered vehicles they designed and built. Ken Caryl Middle School (Littleton) swept first place in fastest solar-powered model car as well as fastest lithium-ion battery powered model car categories. IPC Announces Winners of hand soldering competition.

Record-breaking 43 competitors took part in IPC's Hand Soldering Competition at SMT Hybrid Packaging 2016 in Nuremberg, Germany. Participants were tasked with building functional electronics assembly within 60 min, and each assembly was evaluated based on workmanship, overall functionality, compliance with IPC-A-610 Class 3 criteria, and speed to complete PCB. NREL aids BLM with geothermal energy research.
