Green Gamification: Could the Green Button Be the Killer App for Consumer Energy?

U.S. Department of Energy Hosts Energy-Savings Contest
Last Thursday marked the beginning of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Apps for Energy contest, which challenges software developers to create mobile applications that can help consumers and businesses use less energy. Competitors are encouraged to use public energy consumption and utilities information to guide app-users to make energy smart decisions — and receive a pay day in the process.
