Sustainability Spotlight: SolarCar is Nominated for Industrial Design & Engineering Award
SolarCar announced their nomination for the European Aluminum Award 2010 Industrial Design & Engineering. The Aluminum Award is granted by the European Aluminum Award group in recognition of highly innovative applications of aluminum in a new product or project.
Enabling golfers around the world to be environmentally responsible while enjoying a leisure time activity, SolarCar PowerTops consist of a rooftop solar panel that captures the sun’s energy and transforms it into to electricity – it delivers up to 350 W of output power, plenty to last all the way to the 18th hole. The PowerTop houses an invisible safety frame of stiff aluminum, wires, a black box converter, the solar panel, interior handle, and body panels, and retrofits as the canopy on all makes of golf cart. In addition, double layers of certified safety glass protect the solar panel from any damage due to an errantly hit golf ball. So go and enjoy a round with a minimal carbon footprint!
SolarCar, located in the Netherlands, is the world’s first supplier of professional solar powered adaptations for electric vehicles, including electric golf cars.
