Original Press Release:

Loma's New X⁵ X-ray System: a Quick-Clean Inspection Machine!

Loma Systems is proud to launch its next generation of x-ray inspection, the X5 X-ray system. Loma’s flagship X5 X-ray inspection system incorporates new features which bring industry-leading levels of product integrity to the busiest of food processing lines and peace of mind to retail suppliers around the world.  Responding to user demands for ease of cleaning and reduced maintenance, the X5 X-ray system has been redesigned to deliver maximum uptime in round-the-clock production environments while identifying and rejecting the smallest contaminants.

Retailer compliance demands the highest levels of cleanliness and this is where the X5 shines.  The rounded, sloping surfaces of the system ensure that food particles and wash-down droplets cannot accumulate on its surfaces, unlike equipment with flat surfaces which can leave areas of potential contamination. Additionally, impermeable seals have been added to the x-ray cabinet to prevent water ingress. The new design meets AMI standards for wash-down environments.

This means cleaning is both quick and effective, allowing processors to achieve significant savings in productivity while satisfying retailer mandates.  A new tubular framework, made of high-quality, #304 stainless steel, is equally easy to clean and is robust enough to withstand harsh working conditions.

Market-leading performance

At the heart of the X5 X-ray inspection system is a powerful industrial PC, with easy to use Windows-based operating software that delivers accurate, reliable quality control at line speeds of up to 90m/min.

This high-speed operation goes hand-in-hand with cutting-edge inspection technology.  Contaminants such as metals, metallized packaging, glass, PVC, bone, rubber, stones and ingredient clumps are automatically detected and the affected packs are diverted from the line for investigation.  Under- and over-weight packs can also be eliminated from the packing line, along with irregular and improperly packaged items and packs with incorrect content levels.  Inspection data can be automatically monitored and extracted to provide an effective and reliable audit trail for each production run.

Capable of matching any line speed, the X5 X-ray ensures that suppliers of packaged foods and ready meals can meet the quality and consistency standards of leading retailers with confidence.

Cutting down-time, increasing profits

Onerous maintenance regimes can eat into production time – and into the bottom line too! Loma Systems has solved the problem of lengthy conveyor belt changes by introducing a quick release mechanism, mounted on gas struts for operator safety.   This allows the conveyor belt to be changed within a few minutes, a job that can tie up maintenance staff for over half an hour on competitive systems. The belt itself is toughened for a long productive life, even in heavy duty applications, and comes in a choice of widths; 300, 500 and 600mm to suit individual requirements.

Like all Loma products, the X5 X-ray is built to last, its rugged construction proofs against the rigours of multi-shift operations in challenging manufacturing environments.  A sideways-opening door provides safe and easy access to the cabinet interior for quick serviceability.

All this and energy-savings too!

This legendary reliability comes with a ‘green’ bonus, an advanced x-ray technology that delivers high quality visual images while minimising power consumption.  There are a number of cooling options to suit individual applications and the innovative energy-saving heat exchange system offers excellent thermal dissipation.

The control panel, housed in a brushed stainless steel cabinet as standard, features an intuitive 12” colour touch-screen with USB connectivity.  Instead of the usual vulnerable lamp stack, the new Loma X5 X-ray also incorporates a clear – and easily cleaned – dome signal lamp which displays the unit’s status at a glance.

Loma continues to lead the market with technically advanced inspection systems and this latest product further establishes Loma’s position at the forefront of the safety inspection market.
