AccuTouch(TM) Terminal with New Optical Fingerprint Reader Introduced at NRF

A Fingerprint Reader for the Real World

Ellington, Connecticut - In its continuing quest to develop effective and proven workforce management tools for its customers, Accu-Time Systems announced the introduction of its new AccuTouch(TM) workforce management terminal with integrated optical fingerprint reader from Lumidigm Corporation. Designed for dry, dirty, dusty, wet, hot, or cold environments.

The company exhibited the AccuTouch with the new Lumidigm Mercury multispectral fingerprint reader at the National Retail Federation's annual meeting in New York City. According to Larry Dawson, Accu-Time Systems' Vice President of Marketing, "We have been working with Lumidigm for several months to incorporate their innovative Mercury reader into our workforce management terminals. The new multispectral reader allows our customers to have a biometric option in environments where using biometrics was not previously feasible. This fingerprint technology is completely different from existing conventional fingerprint readers. It virtually eliminates enrollment and false read issues. This leads to less management oversight, lower training costs, higher user satisfaction, and greater return on investment." ATS has also designed a unique finger placement slot for AccuTouch to guide the user's finger into the proper location to get the best fingerprint image.

The Mercury reader uses Lumidigm's patented multispectral imaging technology to provide exceptional biometric performance regardless of environment or the user's skin condition. Multiple wavelengths of light are used to not only capture surface information, but also capture data from one's "internal" fingerprint. The internal print lies about 1mm below the skin surface and is made up of the vein like structures called capillaries. The pattern of those structures is identical to the surface print. Therefore, if the surface print is obscured by dirt or water or is damaged it is not an issue for this technology. Another significant benefit is that the quality of the read is not affected by the pressure the user applies. "The bar for fingerprint performance, reliability, and durability has been raised to an entirely new level," says Bill Spence, Lumidigm's Vice President of Transaction Systems. "All of Lumidigm's inherent technology advantages, combined with a lightning fast "tap and go" user interface, ensure huge reductions in enrollment problems, enrollment training time and improper reads. That means less hassles and greater ROI for end users and channel partners."

Accu-Time Systems' AccuTouch workforce management terminal with integrated Lumidigm Mercury reader is available for order now. The Mercury reader is the latest generation of multispectral fingerprint readers from Lumidigm Corporation of Albuquerque, New Mexico and includes integral real finger detection to eliminate fake finger usage, fast enrollment and read, a high durability glass platen for very long life, and operation across a wide range of temperatures, relative humidity, and ambient light. The Maximus with Mercury reader will allow local verification (1:1) with template storage for up to 50,000 users. Local identification (1:n) capacity is up to 1000 users per bank and up to 10 banks for a total of 10,000 users.
