Wirewound Resistors provide high voltage surge protection.

Press Release Summary:

Featuring completely welded construction, CW-High Surge Series combines surge immunity up to 12 kV with high-temperature operation to +350°C. Axial lead wirewound resistors offer power ratings from 1–13 W at 25°C and resistance from 0.1 Ω to 167 kΩ, with tolerances of ±3%, ±5%, and ±10%. Available with both lead-free and tin/lead terminations, silicone-coated resistors are suited for power supplies, metering and welding equipment, power tools, and appliances.

Original Press Release:

Vishay Intertechnology CW...HS Axial Lead Wirewound Resistors Offer Reliable High-Temperature Surge Voltage Protection

MALVERN, Pa. — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today introduced a new series of silicone-coated axial lead wirewound resistors. Providing superior short-term surge protection compared with standard wirewound devices, Vishay Dale CW - High Surge series resistors combine high voltage surge immunity up to 12 kV with high-temperature operation to +350 °C in a high-reliability design.

CW - High Surge resistors provide overload and high surge voltage protection in accordance to IEC 61000-4-5 (1.2 µs/50 µs) requirements for power supplies, metering and welding equipment, power tools, and appliances in a wide range of applications. The devices offer a rugged, completely welded construction for increased reliability, while their high-temperature silicone coating allows for operating temperature ranges of -65 °C to +250 °C (characteristic U) and -65 °C to +350 °C (characteristic V).

The compact resistors provide high power ratings from 1 W to 13 W at 25 °C and 2,000-hour load-life stability of less than ± 3 % at +25 °C. The devices offer resistances from 0.1Â Ω to 167 kΩ, with tolerances of ± 3 %, ± 5 %, and ± 10 %, and TCR of ± 90 ppm/°C for resistance below 0.99 Ω, ± 50 ppm/°C for resistance from 1.0Â Ω to 9.9 Ω, and ± 30 ppm/°C for resistance of 10Â Ω and above.

The CW - High Surge series is available with both lead (Pb)-free and tin/lead terminations.
