Tektronix Brings New HDR and WCG Support to Industry Leading Waveform Monitors



Field-installable Upgrade for WFM/WVR 8000 Series Products Allows Camera Operators, Editors and Colorists to Easily Capture, Reproduce Realistic Images



BEAVERTON, Ore. -- Tektronix, an industry-leading innovator of video test and monitoring solutions, today announced a field-installable software upgrade for its popular WFM/WVR 8000 series of waveform monitors and rasterizers, adding new support for monitoring High Dynamic Range (HDR) and ITU-R Recommendation BT.2020 Wide Color Gamut (WCG) formats. The upgrades, which will be demonstrated at the upcoming 2016 IBC exhibition in Amsterdam, assist camera operators, editors and colorists in easily and accurately capturing and reproducing highly realistic video image content that ultimately enhances consumers' viewing experience.

The premier annual event for professionals engaged in the creation, management and delivery of entertainment and news content worldwide, the IBC exhibition is being held 9 Sept., 2016 in Amsterdam and is expected to draw more than 55,000 attendees from 170 countries and will feature products from over 1,600 exhibitors. Tektronix will be demonstrating its full range of industry leading video test and monitoring solutions in Stand 10 D41.

With the rapid advance of 4K and HDR technologies and increasing adoption rates across the industry, companies involved in the production and delivery of 4K content – from camera manufacturers to post-production houses to broadcasters – are investing in new 4K-related equipment. Tektronix waveform monitors and rasterizers enables 4K support via an easy, field-installable software upgrade, eliminating the need for customers to purchase costly hardware replacements in order to shoot, prepare and deliver 4K and HDR/WCG programming.



The platform uses a high-performance architecture fully capable of supporting the throughput requirements of 4K content. The outstanding combination of capabilities, features, performance and upgradeability make these instruments ideal for meeting the 4K/HDR requirements of equipment manufacturers, content producers, post-production houses, broadcasters and other video service providers. Customers can continue to purchase the equipment they need for their existing requirements, secure in the knowledge that when the time comes to roll out 4K and high dynamic range content, they can easily upgrade.



Availability

The HDR capability will be released in Q4 this year and included in Option PROD (a field upgradeable software-only option) for the Tektronix WFM/WVR 8000 series. Any customer with a valid software option key license for PROD will receive the upgrade free-of-charge. Any customer with a WFM/WVR 8000 without that option may also be upgraded in the field to support HDR by simply purchasing the PROD option.
