Water-Repellent Admixtures aid concrete product production.

Press Release Summary:

Suited for light swipe (RheoFIT(TM) 900) and moderate to heavy swipe (RheoFIT 900 S), plasticizing admixtures enhance production efficiency and aesthetic appeal of manufactured concrete products. They exceed traditional plasticizing chemistries by dispersing cement, pozzolans, and integral pigments. Also, both versions reduce compaction resistance while optimizing compressive and flexural strengths. Surface finish characteristics are improved as well, via reduced breakage and culls.

BASF Introduces RheoFIT(TM) 900 Plasticizing, Water-Repellent Admixtures

Innovative, patent-pending product available for light, moderate and heavy swipe

CLEVELAND, OH, February 27, 2009 -- The Admixture Systems business of BASF Construction Chemicals has developed the RheoFIT 900 line of plasticizing admixtures, which are specially formulated to enhance the production efficiency and aesthetic appeal of manufactured concrete products. When used in combination with Rheopel® Plus water-repellent efflorescence-control admixture from BASF, the unique system of products can provide additional benefits and cost savings.

The RheoFIT line includes RheoFIT 900 for light swipe and RheoFIT 900 S for moderate to heavy swipe, addressing any swipe need. These admixtures go beyond traditional plasticizing chemistries by dispersing cement, pozzolans and integral pigments, and by reducing compaction resistance and improving material feed and distribution.

As a result, both RheoFIT 900 and RheoFIT 900 S increase production rates and compressive and flexural strengths, and improve surface finish characteristics through reduced breakage and culls and improved color and texture. They are ideal for use in applications including concrete block, concrete pavers, segmental retaining walls, hollow-core slabs, concrete pipe and concrete roof tiles.

When the RheoFIT admixtures are used in combination with Rheopel Plus admixture, additional efflorescence control, strength, density, and absorption will be experienced. In addition, color loadings can be reduced, often by 10 to 12 percent.

"The revolutionary RheoFIT 900 products allow concrete masonry producers to achieve greater efficiency through the products' high degree of predictability, wide window of operation, and high production rates," said Kenneth Kruse, Industry Manager, Manufactured Concrete Products, BASF. "In addition, the synergies that can be achieved when combined with Rheopel Plus admixture are extremely beneficial from both a performance and cost perspective."
