Cognex Announces Powerful Two Megapixel Vision Sensor

Natick, MA, April 13, 2005-Cognex Corporation (NASDAQ - CGNX), the world's leading supplier of machine vision systems and vision sensors, today announced the In-Sight® 5403, a 2 megapixel vision sensor. The In-Sight 5403 is the first vision sensor that captures full-frame, 1600 x 1200 images at up to 15 frames per second for highly detailed inspection of fast moving objects.

The increased resolution of the In-Sight 5403 provides unsurpassed accuracy for precision gauging, alignment, and fine-defect inspection on very small parts. By capturing images of larger parts or viewing multiple objects simultaneously, the 5403 performs inspections that formerly required multiple sensors. Alternatively, the 5403 can be mounted further from the part while maintaining the required resolution to provide working distance flexibility.

"We currently use the In-Sight 5400 model running the industry-leading PatMax geometric pattern matching software from Cognex because it sets a new performance standard for vision sensors," said Matt Quinn, partner at Epic Vision Solutions Inc., a St. Louis-based vision integrator serving the consumer products and automotive industries. "With two and a half times the resolution of standard vision sensors, the 5403 makes the In-Sight product line even more powerful for applications that require very precise and repeatable measurements."

As with other In-Sight 5000 Series vision sensors, the 5403 is a self-contained, industrial-grade vision sensor that meets IEC specifications for shock and vibration, and achieves an IP67 (NEMA 6) rating for dust and wash-down protection. It offers built-in Ethernet communications and In-Sight Explorer software that combines the unique and powerful vision spreadsheet interface with advanced tools to simplify application development and network administration. PatMax(r), the industry's performance standard for feature and object location, is available as an option.

The In-Sight 5403 is available now.
