Video Processor enhances endoscopy via digital, optical features.

Press Release Summary:

OPTIVISTA EPK-i7010 offers physicians digital- and optical-based electronic chromoendoscopy with i-SCAN™ imaging and OE Optical Enhancement technology (OE). While i-SCAN enhances digital images through surface, contrast, and tone to optimize image of mucosal surface texture contour and blood vessels, OE uses spectral light filter that transmits band-limited red, green, and blue light to enhance images. Physicians can switch in real-time between HD+ white light, 2 OE modes, and 3 i-SCAN modes.

PENTAX Medical Launches OPTIVISTA EPK-i7010 Video Processor

Go Beyond Conventional White Light Endoscopy with PENTAX Medical Enhancement Technologies

MONTVALE, N.J. -- PENTAX Medical Corp. (PENTAX Medical), a healthcare industry leader in endoscopic imaging, announced today the launch of the OPTIVISTA EPK-i7010 Video Processor (OPTIVISTA), featuring both digital and optical enhancements. The OPTIVISTA, which will premiere during Digestive Disease Week, offers physicians digital and optical-based electronic chromoendoscopy with new i-SCAN(TM) imaging and OE Optical Enhancement technology (OE). This unique enhancement expands applications to a broader range of clinical needs across detection, identification and confirmation during endoscopy.

i-SCAN is a software-based image processing technology that enhances digital images through a combination of surface enhancement, contrast enhancement, and tone enhancement to provide a digitally superior image of mucosal surface texture contour, and blood vessels.

OE uses a spectral light filter that transmits band limited red, green, and blue light and is intended to provide the user with an enhanced image of blood vessels, glandular ducts, and the fine structure of the mucosal membrane in higher contrasts than white light. This may provide additional clarity of vascular patterns and confidence to adopt in vivo histology of lesions.

OPTIVISTA is perfectly suited for routine procedures or complex interventions and provides market-leading image quality. Physicians can switch seamlessly in real time between HD+ white light, two OE modes, and three i-SCAN modes to view multiple aspects of tissue structure. The OPTIVISTA can work together with the latest i10 HD+ endoscopes series, MagniView, or optical zoom endoscopes to deliver advanced visualization to support physician requirements for the detection and treatment of GI disease.

Silvia Sanduleanu, MD, PhD, Maastricht University Medical Center, The Netherlands, who was involved in early studies with the OPTIVISTA said, "Contrast enhancement using OE highlights the epithelial mucosal surface pattern and especially the vascular pattern in detail."

In addition to improved diagnosis, OPTIVISTA is a powerful teaching platform. HD TwinMode is useful for teaching appropriate interpretation of image enhanced endoscopy, providing a simultaneous comparison of side-by-side endoscopic images. This enhanced comparison is particularly useful in demonstrating the appropriate characterization of lesions.

Included with the OPTIVISTA is the ability to perform video recording, which allows the capture of HD+ video files onto a USB storage device. Audio recording for video is captured through an external microphone. The intuitive touch screen controls enable simple and efficient operation. For optimum image collection, the OPTIVISTA incorporates freeze scan technology, which automatically selects the sharpest picture for users' records. By integrating the video and audio capture functionality, there is no requirement for additional recording devices or software.

David Woods, Chief Marketing Officer of PENTAX Medical commented, "The OPTIVISTA EPK-i7010 Video Processor is an exciting addition to our product platform and exhibits PENTAX Medical's commitment to continuous innovation and delivering products and services that have enhanced clinical relevance."
