USB-Isolator Provides Security Through Galvanic Separation

April 2009

USB-GT MED with EN 60601-1 and EN 60601-1-2 certificate and approval

With the new MED-version, the USB-interface isolator USB-GT by Meilhaus Electronic is now available with an EN 60601-1 and 60601-1-2 certificate and approval. This module protects the USB against surges of up to 4000V using optocouplers. It operates absolutely transparent, so no changes in software or drivers are necessary. Depending on the model, the USB-GT is powered either by the USB-interface or an optional external power supply. The USB-GT MED is especially suited for security relevant data communication applications such as in the medical field, where the galvanic separation with guaranteed 4kV isolation is a must. To comply with the 93/42/EWG standard for medical technology, the module has an EN 60601-1-2 certification. This also allows the connection of non-medical peripheral devices such as printers via the USB-GT MED to medical devices such as x-ray-, ultrasound-, endoscope-, or laser systems. The USB-GT MED provides a secure galvanic separation of "both worlds"
