Kanguru Solutions Releases AES Encrypted USB2.0 Flash Drive to Meet Federal Security Standards

Millis, Mass. - Aug. 17, 2004 - Kanguru Solutions today unveiled a USB flash drive that offers the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) protection approved by the National Institute of Standards Technology (NIST).

This product is also the first USB flash drive to undergo the rigorous Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) certification testing. The company expects the product to be FIPS certified in the fall.

"Since Sept. 11, security has been a major concern to government entities. We have made it a priority to offer the latest security encryption standards. The KanguruMicro Drive AES will be the first USB Flash Drive to meet federal requirements for protecting sensitive data," said Nate Cote, vice president of product management at Kanguru Solutions. "I believe this will become the standard in USB flash drive procurements based on high level discussions with government officials."

The KanguruMicro Drive AES, a new silver shelled secure version of the USB flash drive that was first released by the company in 2001, offers 256-bit AES encryption and is available in Green or Red housings for custom security applications. It measures just 3 inches in length and weighs only 21g. An excellent storage solution for mobile users, the KanguruMicro Drive AES is available in capacities ranging from 128MB to 4GB. It offers plug and play capabilities and is driverless with most Windows operating systems.

Beginning in 2001, the federal government began encouraging US Government agencies dealing with national security systems and national security information to adopt products that offer Government certified AES protection. According to the Federal Information Processing Standards Publication 197, AES is a "symmetric block cipher" that encrypts data into an illegible form called ciphertext making it impossible for outsiders to reach the data. (For more information on AES, go to: http://csrc.nist.gov/publications/fips/fips197/fips-197.pdf)

The encryption features are built into the device allowing any data that is placed onto the drive to become encrypted, requiring a secure password for data access.
